Yesterday I walked into the Eagle Theater (at Eagle Rock Blvd. and Yosemite) for the first time since 1991. Refreshments are decidedly cheaper than at AMC theaters. Alcohol is now available as well. The auditorium has been restored to how it must have been mid-century. The DVD and blue-ray rental store next door has an impressive selection. If a customer doesn't own a DVD or Blu-ray player, they say they'll loan one. With the loss of great movie rental stores like Video Journeys in Silver Lake and Eddie Brandt's Saturday Matinee in North Hollywood, Vidiots' new store will fill a void. And more so with Netflix discontinuing DVD rent-by-mail in September.
They have an impressive silent movie section, though they don't have two movies I'm looking for In Old California (D.W. Griffith's first movie made in California) and Little Pal withMary Pickford.
I also noticed a section organized by directors and a documentary section. There was much else, but I didn't have time to explore further.
