An injustice from the 70s is finally corrected. "Two Indigenous men were acquitted of 50-year-old murder convictions Tuesday with the help of Innocence Canada and Manitoba’s top judge. Chief Justice Glenn Joyal told a packed courtroom in Winnipeg that Brian Anderson and Allan (A.J.) Woodhouse were wrongly convicted in 1974 of killing restaurant worker Ting Fong Chan. Not only that, said Joyal of Manitoba Court of King’s Bench, but the men are not guilty. “You are innocent and you deserve the acquittals,” said the judge. “I’m happy to offer an apology on behalf of the institution and system that failed you. “You are heroes in every sense of the word.” Everyone from the police to the prosecutor to the prison system conspired to keep them locked up, he said, but their courage and perseverance prevailed." The coincidence with the name of one of the former wrongly convicted prisoners made me post here, the full story www.aptnnews.ca/national-news/two-indigenous-men-acquitted-of-murder-after-50-years/?fbclid=IwAR0A3l-JOyY6CYEde8rjx6w6v3jXcbRRRoyEbFt3hRl8pXvkpY4w2n_5NHgThe USA should follow Canada's lead and free Leonard Peltier. Thanks to the Leonard Peltier Freedom Family 2023 Facebook page for posting this. It's very sad that whoever actually murdered Ting Fong Chan will never be known. I believe the real killers of the FBI agents who died in the 1975 shoot-out on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, for which Leonard Peltier is serving time, have also evaded justice.

See, I told you I didn't do it.
Seriously, that article and the accompanying video were heartwarming -- the looks on those guys' face, their words absent any trace of bitterness. I'm sending a link to this thread to our dear friend Martine in Winnipeg, who attended a couple of Montrose Peace Vigils when she stayed with us here too many years ago. As a passionate supporter of First Nations people up there, she probably knows this story but I always want to hear more from her.
