What a strange article. The members behind those failed joint resolutions are among the boldest faces in the Who's Who of Insurrectionists: Reps. Gosar, Boebert and Gaetz. Few people care about the archaic national emergency declarations that litter the Federal Register, so why do they? I assume it's because they can raise money from the folks who believe that President Biden is coming for them and their guns. Maybe there's some QAnon conspiracy about him testing biological weapons on U.S. citizens that I don't know about.
I looked up the vote on H.J.Res.71 to terminate President George W. Bush's May 2003 executive order establishing a national emergency over our invasion of Iraq. It went down 26 to 394 with only four Democrats voting yea, including young progressive Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib. But two of the longest serving anti-war voices in the House -- Barbara Lee and Jim McGovern -- voted nay, as did Margarine Trailer Queen. What kind of uniparty is this?
