Net Zero has mailed me a new power source, and our machine is working for now. Brian and I have a "date" at the Sunland-Tujunga Library, this evening at 6:30...he doesn't know that I reserved a computer, too. Maybe this connection will still be here when we return from our "date". It's all good.
I've fired NetZero (not officially, yet) and chosen Verizon. Any thoughts out there about one Internet Provider vs. another? Are they pretty much the same?

Update: Tujunga: It seems as though we did just need a new power source, more commonly known as a cord. I'm still waiting for Verizon to send their modem and router, so I can set up our brand new connection to the old world. Even the imac to the internets...
(note to self, maybe find a job as an IT gurrrrrrrrllllll?)

We're off to a very bad start with Verizon.
When I ordered Internet service from them on Monday, I was told that we'd get the equipment in the mail by Thursday or Friday. Then someone from Verizon would call us to verify we received their package and disconnect Net Zero's DSL line.
Instead, Brian had just posted his latest screed about Tim Finn on Thursday night before a red light started blazing on the Net Zero box -- Verizon disconnected our Net Zero service at midnight. I called Verizon Friday morning. They said our order was not entered until Wednesday, so maybe we'll get the new Internet box from them on Monday. Or Tuesday. No apologies for the early disconnection.
Meanwhile, we're back to using old fashioned dial-up from Net Zero.
Best to call Anni on her cellphone for the time being.

As of today, Tuesday, we are still using the antique dial-up, BUTTTTT, I did drive to the Sylmar UPS station this AM to pick up the new Modem/Router incorrectly addressed to 10345 12 (instead of 1/2, which I told them two Mondays ago and again on Friday, last) sooooo as of now the package is here, waiting to be opened and installed by me. For now it will just have to wait, 'til I'm not too afraid of anything else going amiss.

TAH DAH! Or is that TAH DUH? We have been verizonized and we are faster for having suffered soooooooo... . Was it worth it? That remains to be seen. To what I'm really looking forward? Luncheon with my beloved friend forever, K.B. then Ceramics Class with our beloved Jeanne. Yes it's a good day.

One week later -- although we're being charged for two weeks -- and I'm very pleased with how much better Verizon's DSL line runs compared to Net Zero's, which could not be connected to Anni's new Apple wireless Internet. That left us to choose among the big three: Verizon, Time Warner and AT&T. We didn't have to open a new account to sign up with Verizon, but still they dicked around for eight days. Anni was incredible throughout the entire ordeal. Then she hooked up everything like a pro. Any thoughts out there about one Internet Provider vs. another? Are they pretty much the same? We've got another two weeks to dump Verizon if we choose. So we'd welcome any comments about Time Warner's Road Runner, especially -- how would you rate their service for speed, reliability and cost?
