www.laprogressive.com/foreign-policy/foreign-policy-failureWhat's Behind Joe Biden's Foreign Policy Failure? Only an exceptional president could resist the endless war-profiteering of this mammoth war machine; alas, Biden doesn’t even try. by Jeffrey Sachs When it comes to foreign policy, the president of the United States has two essential roles. The first is to rein in the military-industrial complex, or MIC, which is always pushing for war. The second is to rein in U.S. allies that expect the U.S. to go to war on their behalf. A few savvy presidents succeed, but most fail. Joe Biden is certainly a failure. One of the savviest presidents was Dwight Eisenhower. In late 1956, he confronted two simultaneous crises. The first was a disastrously misguided war launched by the United Kingdom, France, and Israel to overthrow the Egyptian government and retake control of the Suez Canal following its nationalization by Egypt. Eisenhower forced the allies to stop their brazen and illegal attack, including through a U.S.-sponsored United Nations General Assembly resolution. The second crisis was the Hungarian Uprising against Soviet domination of Hungary. While Eisenhower sympathized with the uprising, he wisely kept the U.S. out of Hungary and thereby avoided a dangerous military showdown with the Soviet Union. see rest of article at link above www.laprogressive.com/war-and-peace/just-a-defensive-responseJust a ' Defensive Response' - Biden Starts Another US War The world’s most murderous and powerful government is framing its horrifying acts of extreme aggression as innocent defensive responses to unprovoked attacks. by Caitlin Johnstone

Thanks for those links, our (apparently) new guest poster. I love LA Progressive and read it every day. Even when I don't agree with all of its many wonderful contributors' conclusions, Dick and Sharon always deliver verifiable facts within each piece in the pursuit of justice.
So far -- and by far -- Biden is the most effective president for world peace since Carter, which of course isn't much of a compliment. But he got us out of Afghanistan after 20 years in the best possible way, ignoring the stern advice of all of his military advisors to send in more troops before withdrawing the 2,500 we had there. I will always thank Joe for that. And as vice president, he argued against Obama's troop surge. I trust his instincts to keep us out of a prolonged conflict in Yemen. So far. No matter what, I will vote to re-elect him without hesitation in November (after probably voting for Marianne Williamson in the primary). The alternative is too scary to contemplate.
