Members of Montrose Peace Vigil will return to Hollywood for the ANSWER Los Angeles march and rally on Saturday, March 19, the eighth anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Details on their webpage: www.answercoalition.org/la/events/march-19-los-angeles-protest-1.htmlWe've participated in four of these anniversary protests in Hollywood and two others downtown since 2007.

And what's even better now and then than a group of stalwarts for peace in a suburban foothill outpost:
A big, loud, entertaining, diverse, urban anti-war march!
www.answercoalition.org/la/index.html
Me, Brian, Anni, Louisa and Julie seem sure, I heard maybes from Nancy, and (science) Mike. Jeanne was off in support of Empty bowl neighbors, but she probably won't miss the gathering. Others?
The plan is to gather at noon (yes that is the starting time, and will be the first peace march ever to step off on time if so!) on the SW corner of Hollywood and Vine. Bring anything in the way of snacks and diversion you'd like to be shared, and your own survival supplies/signs.
Yes, Hollywood and Vine is a MTA red line stop. If only the red line was anywhere near the Crescenta Valley! I have room for 4 with me, and will happily pay parking, since long-term street parking near there is only a fun memory. (5 in a Prius constitutes a green alternative in my opinion.)
Chime in with what I've overlooked or gotten wrong everyone! Nothing wrong at all, Roberta. That was beautiful. I hope Jeanne can go -- I don't think she's ever missed a march. What about Jim, does he know? Anni ran into Sigrid and Tony at Trader Joe on Monday, and they're going to try to come to the corner on Friday or Hollywood on Saturday. Here's the best link for logistics: www.answercoalition.org/la/news/important-logistical-info.htmlTonight's long-range forecast moved the rain from Friday into Saturday, but less than half an inch. Maybe we'll be lucky and stay dry as we did at previous marches when rain was predicted.

Thanks to all who are participating. I was thinking of joining you but I'm going to have to pass. Jim may as well due to a meeting at 11 am on Saturday on an incident that happened last fall at Hoover HS.

And thank you, Sharon and Jim, for working for peace and justice at Hoover High School. Another important cause!

We will be following our same plan for AnswerLA.org's March/Rally as in previous years. (Been going on too long, these wars, anyone?) Arrive in Hollywood about 11:30 and park in the expensive lot behind the Arclight. Convenient...Walk to meet our friends at the Southwest corner of Hollywood and Vine. March the good march (hopefully avoiding the 9/11 conspiracy theorists) circling back to Amoeba and our favorite shopping spree. Hungry yet? On to the best Matzo Ball Soup and big Meat Sandwiches at Canter's on Fairfax.

I go there for deadly serious reasons -- to protest a decade of killing in Afghanistan and Iraq and the looting of our treasury -- but it's always such a joy marching down the streets of Hollywood every year with so many wonderful, caring people.
Anni and I arrived well before noon at the plastic street barricades, so we hoisted our signs and joined a few protesters facing the traffic on Vine and the westbound cars on Hollywood Boulevard that had to detour. We were in the perfect position to see Sigrid and Tony in the throngs exiting the subway station, and Roberta, Jeanne and Julie coming from a nearby parking lot on Vine. Cynthia and Nick had no trouble finding us. Louisa stopped by with her friend Rosemary before heading to the front of the march, which didn't start until 1:10 p.m. We hung out at the back with folks like Congressional candidate and progressive champion Marcy Winograd, who accepted one of Roberta's Girl Scout cookies, and a great guy in his 20's who couldn't get any of his friends to come with him.
The Montrose Peace Vigil lined up as far away as we could from the 9/11 conspiracy theorists, putting us at the very end of the parade with only a few stragglers between us and the bicycle police who marked the rear. In front we enjoyed 18 amazing indigenous Mexican tribal dancers and drummers in glorious costumes with percussive shells strapped around their ankles. So we had the last word.
One of the biggest rewards of these marches is running into friends from other local actions -- this year, Fern and Ann from the Pasadena Brown Bag Lunch Vigils and Pearl, Ron and Nina from Glendale Peace Vigil.

Since channel 7 spent more time on the neo-nazi anti immigration protest in Claremont than they had for our: Eighth Annual STOP THE WARS MARCH AND RALLY in Hollywood CA. Here are a couple of pics I got...
