It's confirmed! Both our Brian and WeatherBug are claiming that tomorrow's Vigil, though chilly, will be held under mostly clear skies.
Next Friday brings the return of our beautiful Roberta. And though it's too early to say...maybe the more temperate climate we're better equipped to handle. (I know, speak for myself.)

I was an emissary for peace last night in not going off on the spring breakers who partied all night across the aisle from my seat. Payback for my wild youth. Tonight a little roomette and I certainly hope some serious quiet and a little actual sleep.
I am relieved to hear you will have better weather tonight. I just answered an out-of-the-blue email from "big Ron" who some of you may remember used to come to the corner pretty regularly. I urged him to revisit tonight.
What am amazing vigil group we have. Miss you all and see you soon.

Wow, I daresay that's our first post from a train. We've missed Roberta and we thank her for checking in!
Thirteen familiar faces turned out for this Friday's Montrose Peace Vigil, matching our attendance on February 11, the last time it didn't rain. The beautiful weather resulted in throngs of shoppers, frozen yogurt eaters, dog walkers and Girl Scout cookie sellers on the sidewalks along with long lines of motorized captive audiences at the eastbound red light on Honolulu Avenue reacting with shouts, waves, peace signs, thumbs up and hands on the horn to the messages on the corner.
Anni delivered exquisite treats from Glendale Bakery, which is actually located in Tujunga, to celebrate the shared birthday on Saturday of Jeanne and Cynthia, who brought Nick again. Sigrid and Tony are very interested in joining us at the march in Hollywood on March 19. And Linda was back, promising to bring Robert with her next week.

Anni brought the candles for the last vigil conducted under standard time until November. I'll save my rant for the thread she started to object to Daylight Saving Time, but I have to admit that on March 11, it was dark for only the last 45 minutes anyway. Her birthday's almost here, yet Anni made a gift for me -- a new, highly readable, black-on-white "War Is Over If You Want It" sign for next Friday.
Jeanne and Jim are going to have to wait another week to see Roberta back on the corner after her extensive travels, since they had business elsewhere. Stepping in for them after brief absences were Julie, Louisa, Jenny and Lara. We were also blessed with Nancy, Mike, Linda, Cynthia and Nick, all of whom have achieved stalwart status. Total attendance for this Montrose Peace Vigil was 12.

And what's even better now and then than a group of stalwarts for peace in a suburban foothill outpost: A big, loud, entertaining, diverse, urban anti-war march! www.answercoalition.org/la/index.htmlMe, Brian, Anni, Louisa and Julie seem sure, I heard maybes from Nancy, and (science) Mike. Jeanne was off in support of Empty bowl neighbors, but she probably won't miss the gathering. Others? The plan is to gather at noon (yes that is the starting time, and will be the first peace march ever to step off on time if so!) on the SW corner of Hollywood and Vine. Bring anything in the way of snacks and diversion you'd like to be shared, and your own survival supplies/signs. Yes, Hollywood and Vine is a MTA red line stop. If only the red line was anywhere near the Crescenta Valley! I have room for 4 with me, and will happily pay parking, since long-term street parking near there is only a fun memory. (5 in a Prius constitutes a green alternative in my opinion.) Chime in with what I've overlooked or gotten wrong everyone!

Attendance at the first Montrose Peace Vigil this year under Daylight Saving Time keeps our average at 12 -- the same number of peaceniks on the corner as the first three weeks of March 2010: - Mar. 4 - 13
- Mar. 11 - 12
- Mar. 18 - 11
If you're reading this before noon on Saturday, you still have time to meet us on the southwest corner of Hollywood and Vine for the march on the eighth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. Details are in this thread on our board, which is also where I'll post a report about what happened on Sunday morning: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=177&page=1

The chilly weather was back for this Friday's Montrose Peace Vigil. Although traffic was lighter than usual, we were warmed by the continued goodwill of many pedestrians, drivers and passengers. Coincidentally, we had the same number of peaceniks standing on the corner as we had marching in Hollywood last Saturday: - Mar. 4 - 13
- Mar. 11 - 12
- Mar. 18 - 11
- Mar. 25 - 9
The weekly average for March dropped to 11.25 participants from 11.5 in February and 11.75 in January.

After hitting a low of only 2 (Nancy and Rita) earlier this month the Glendale Peace Vigil was back up to 13 last night. The No War in Libya signs, apparently from last week's march, attracted 3 young people to join us. There was a lot of foot traffic but Borders is closing though so Broadway and Brand will have two empty corners. At least they've put something in the windows of the former Mervin's.

It's heartening to read about the young people who joined your vigil last Friday, Sharon. We haven't had any spontaneous participants for weeks. A year ago, however, we had lots of teenagers and young adults. I can't imagine that the closing of those big stores will diminish the traffic at Brand and Broadway much -- it's one of the busiest intersections in Glendale, with pedestrians always streaming on the wide sidewalks and plenty of captive eyeballs on the road behind the stoplights. For those new to the message board, Glendale Peace Vigil started in 2003 -- here's their website: www.glendalepeacevigil.org/It's a great vibe with wonderful people -- and it's been too long since I've been there. One of the things I plan to do when my workload winds down in May is leave work early so I can enjoy at least part of the Glendale Peace Vigil, which starts at 5 p.m., half an hour before the Montrose Peace Vigil every Friday.

At the banner Monday (beautiful and fun as always), Jeanne and Bruce were saying we haven't had a "curve ball" in too long. How about Monday 4/4, MLK assassination anniversary? local.we-r-1.org/We could focus on his anti-war words. I'm open re time, what say you MPV?
