I notice the MPV and the Contras are the subject of a Montrose Patch editorial, montrose.patch.com/articles/patch-letterIt seems Nicole Charky could have written a much more informed piece if she'd come to talk with both groups. Thought someone might want to comment on the editorial.

Thanks, Sharon, for sharing this. I'm thinking about an answer to her. So far all I have is: Dear Nicole Snarky, , and it's Each Other. Cooler heads should prevail. Something more fact based would probably be better all around.

Here's what I wanted to say, but I'd have to subscribe so see what you all think and please suggest whatever:
Yes, thank you Tarik and Nicole.
The pro war contingent joined our Peace Vigil (started January 2006) a few years after we'd been standing for Peace every Friday evening, from 5:30 pm. to 7:00 pm. The Peace Vigil hopes to remind people that War is NOT an Answer. We stood together (with the Pro-War People) for a couple of Friday's. Rather than stand with us or stand on a different day, or at a different time they chose to stand opposite us...
And every so often we do cross the street to speak with each other...so thanks for asking. Oh wait, you didn't ask...

Thought someone might want to comment on the editorial. Thanks, Sharon, I just discovered it on facebook and commented. I think I gave them some important information in a constructive tone. I would love to see others from both corners contribute so we could have some ice breaking, peace making communication.

Excellent comments, Anni and Jeanne - I didn't notice Nicole just posted it and that Tarik actually wrote it. I hope they pick up on the flag issue.

Montrose Patch posted the editorial at 6:00 a.m. on Friday. Sharon started this thread and put up the link at 7:41 a.m. Many thanks to Sharon! Like her, I also appreciate the excellence of Anni's and Jeanne's comments. As of this writing, no one has posted there since.
I'm not inclined to add anything on the Patch because whatever I'd say would only muddy the clear waters that flow from Jeanne's and Anni's words. But that's never stopped me on this board.
First of all, Montrose Peace Vigil and the counter protesters do not gather "in equal numbers." They seldom have more than three or four while we average three or four times that many. Nor do they come every week, especially when the weather's bad -- and they were absent for five weeks after last Thanksgiving. No doubt those gentlemen and the occasional lady would find the notion that our groups stare across the street at each other as absurd as I do. We're all talking to our friends or waving at the honking cars, whose passengers make clear their affiliations, by the way. Still, the piece is as well intentioned as it is fact free.
I agree with Jeanne, who would "love to see others from both corners contribute so we could have some ice breaking, peace making communication," which she has done often by herself and sometimes with Roberta. Ideally, it would be wonderful to find enough literal and rhetorical common ground so we could stand together on the big, wide corner. For that to happen, the remaining counter protesters would have to cease defining themselves as being opposed to whatever it is they think we are.
