We couldn't figure out how to crop the redundant image, but happily it's good enough to show twice: The parade deserves a thread of its own. Here's what Jeanne posted last week elsewhere on this board: Hi friends, this is my first attempt at attaching a file on the message board. If I succeed, you will see a flyer for a Palm Sunday Peace Parade in Pasadena. It's at 3 PM. Those of us who watched Pray the Devil Back To Hell were impressed with the impact that some righteous women in Liberia had in the peacemaking process when they got out on the streets. Roberta and I have been going to this parade for years and I would like to have more of us there this year. Palm Sunday falls on April 1st this year so there is bound to be some humorous street theater along with singing and praying for peace. Do join us.This is the first year since 2003 that I couldn't march somewhere on the anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, and I miss that. So I plan on joining the Palm Sunday Peace Parade this year. From what Roberta and Jeanne have told me, it's fun and uplifting and, even better, the 9/11 conspiracy people don't show up.

Thanks for posting it, Brian and I'm glad you'll be joining in. No 9/11 people, no anarchists. Good, clean demonstrating.

I'm looking forward to the Palm Sunday Peace Parade next Sunday, which promises to take place under clear skies. The official webpage for the event has a 3:30 start time at the top and 3 p.m. at the bottom, yet the parade's background in between makes for a fun read: www.thepeaceacademy.org/peaceparade/Anni and I are going, Jeanne for sure and I assume Roberta too. Anyone else interested in a car pool?

Roberta, Jeanne and her friend Kathryn, Anni and I arrived 45 minutes early for the 10th annual Palm Sunday Peace Parade, so we got to meet everybody as they came -- members of the sponsoring Pasadena churches and other organizations, plus fellow travelers from Occupy Pasadena and the Pasadena Pride Center. We were soon joined by Edmond and Jenny, then Pastor Paige and Forrest.
Montrose Peace Vigil and the Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church got mentions from the pulpit inside Messiah Lutheran Church on Orange Grove Boulevard during the send off and singalong before the march to the Paseo Colorado mall. Led by drums, about 100 people walked on the sidewalk down Los Robles, many with palm fronds and some in jester's hats for April Fools Day.
Channel 7 Eyewitness News had several seconds of footage after 11:30 showing most of the Montrose Peace Vigil members. The last time I enjoyed a march with such unanimity of purpose and universal goodwill was the Rainbow Coalition parade downtown in 1988. Many thanks to Jeanne for getting us involved!

It was a great day. Thanks to everyone who joined in. As we can see from Schiff's recent statement, getting out and speaking up make a difference. Let's keep going.

Here is the link to the opinion piece Jeanne refers to, by Rep. Adam Schiff: www.pasadenastarnews.com/opinions/ci_20297684/adam-schiff-end-war-afghanistanEarly today I called his Washington DC office to praise his call to end the war. In addition to "When?" , I asked if our Congressman wouldn't now be co-sponsoring HR 780: Rep. Barbara Lee's Responsible End to the War in Afghanistan Act. I asked the phone-answerer to please have Adam's Afghanistan aide call me back. She seemed pretty dubious that this would happen, and so was I. A few minutes later though a press aide called. He said not to worry that the "end the war" appeared only in the headline, and that no time-frame was mentioned. That this was a big step for the Congressman and he has arrived here because of activism in the district. That he has seen us vigiling outside the Pasadena office. That his parish in Pasadena has participated in the Palm Sunday peace march in the past. I definitely got the feeling that this young man has been lobbying from within as we push from without, and that his message was to keep up the pressure. What a nice coincidence, that is exactly what we plan to do! My new sign for our noon vigil, Wednesday, 4/18 will be something like: Schiff says End the War in Afghanistan. Thanks! When? NOW!

Thank you, Roberta, not only for your efforts in so many ways (protesting on the streets; phone calls to as many leaders as humanly possible; letters to the editors, and beyond) and then you take the time to share this great news with us -- and inspire us.
Thank you for posting. Brian e-mailed Jim, who stopped by to read and enjoy, too!
