Thanks bunches Anni! When our vigil first began, sometime in January 2006, until September 2006 when I retired from working at UCLA, unless I had a Friday off, I drove directly from the vanpool stop up on Verdugo under the 2 fwy. to the corner. But after the glorious day that I retired, I always come from home, via Florencita so as to head south on Oceanview to "my" parking spot just north of Honolulu. Those were not always the happiest of drives for me. At the beginning there were usually just a few of us, and then later the counter-protesters joined in, and the whole flag fiasco happened. I didn't even have my cool and well-organized sign bag -- anyone remember the shabby plastic garbage bag? More often than not, this little white truck would be parked along Florencita, on the south side across from where it is now, so I had a clear view going past of the "Support Our Troops -- Bring Them Home Now!" bumper sticker. Not even on a Prius! The sight kept me going week after week. Now thanks to Anni it will always be here for me and I hope this post communicates what it meant to me.
