On Friday, March 14, Montrose Peace Vigil is co-sponsoring a screening of Robert Greenwald's famous film, "Unmanned: America's Drone Wars," at the church in conjunction with Read and Practice Peacemaking. We'll soon start another thread for that event here in the Community section of this message board. Yes, here it is friends...in living color, too.

Here is the feature trailer for "Unmanned: America's Drone Wars" that Brave New Films posted on You Tube just two weeks ago. Director Robert Greenwald's foundation has filled my in box with e-mails since 2009, when I learned about his "Rethink Afghanistan" documentary from Pastor Paige on this message board. Now I'm looking forward to seeing his latest at Paige's church on Friday, March 14.

Thanks for posting the trailer, Brian. I'm looking forward to watching the film with peaceniks and potential peaceniks.

Even though "Unmanned: America's Drone Wars" is still available for streaming on our desktops and mobile devices, it will be much more satisfying to watch the documentary next week with other peaceniks and potential peaceniks, as Jeanne says, and be able to talk with others afterwards. Also, the screen inside Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church is better than any computer. Meanwhile, here is a great short article about the film that The Nation ran when it was released last fall: www.thenation.com/blog/176820/new-film-highlights-human-cost-drone-warfare

I'll be stopping by McGroarty on my way home from school to see anni's paintings on display on what happens to be her birthday. She and Brian aren't going to let that keep them from the corner and the film at CVUMC. They'll be making more stops that day than David Dreier on Memorial Day. Please join us.

If you couldn't come to the screening last Friday, here's the entire documentary on You Tube.
"Unmanned: America's Drone Wars" was even better than I expected from the trailer and what I read about the film's production over many months in those e-mails from Brave New Foundation. Robert Greenwald traveled to the hinterlands of northern Pakistan to interview the survivors and the witnesses of American drone attacks. But it was the former Air Force guy who pulled the trigger over here whose testimony moved me the most. As we learned after the revelations of state sponsored torture in the past decade, the torturers suffered more than their victims, in the long run.
What to do? After the screening inside of Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church, we gathered downstairs in the community room to address beautifully written letters to President Obama, along with copies to other elected officials. Jeanne and Roberta also provided envelopes and stamps. The resulting pile was photographed -- someone must have posted it on Facebook by now.
RAPP, the Read and Practice Peacemaking group, will co-sponsor another screening at the church with Montrose Peace Vigil on Friday, April 11. We'll start a thread about that event on this message board soon.

I think I have attached the photo of the letters. Yes, it has also been on facebook. I handed out several more this morning. I think we have close to 90 letters wending their way to Washington. Thanks to everyone who came Friday night. Attachments:
