The 12th annual Palm Sunday Peace Parade starts at 3 p.m. next Sunday, April 13, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 570 E. Orange Grove Blvd. in Pasadena, with singing. The light hearted procession commences from there on the sidewalks of Orange Grove, Los Robles and Colorado to the front of the Paseo Colorado mall on the boulevard for a brief rally. Check out this page on our message board for photos and comments from last year's parade: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/thread/268/palm-sunday-peace-walkIf I can possibly avoid work on Sunday, I will be there to march again, with joy. Here's a few more details from Bert Newton, whom I have encountered at many a peace event in Pasadena. Hard to believe that I will miss a parade led by a donkey and including giant puppets, but unfortunately I cannot be there. Check out the pix of Jeanne and I from an earlier parade at The Peace Academy link below. Yes, we were both there. Puppet Prophets versus War Profits What:The Pasadena Palm Sunday Peace Parade uses puppets to call attention to the economics of war. When:Sunday, April 13, 3:00 p.m. Where:Begins at Messiah Lutheran Church (570 E. Orange Grove Blvd.) and proceeds to the corner of Garfield Avenue and Colorado Blvd. (in front of the Paseo Colorado mall). In the 12th Palm Sunday Peace Parade, larger-than-life-sized puppets will enact the epic struggle of love against greed. Love, represented by a 12-foot Lady Wisdom (Sophia) puppet, will battle Mammon, the god of wealth who tramples the earth, devouring the souls of workers, consumers and the executive class alike, sowing the seeds of war. Sophia and a donkey, that the children can take turns riding, will lead the parade. The Palm Sunday Peace Parade began in 2003 when the U.S. invaded Iraq. The march has continued every year as a family-friendly, faith-based march for peace and justice. The parade is sponsored by The Peace and Justice Academy, The Urban Village of Pasadena, Pasadena Mennonite Church, Messiah Lutheran Church, Knox Presbyterian Church, Church for Others, and Jill Shook and Anthony Manousos. All thanks to Jeanne and Roberta for getting us to come to the Palm Sunday Peace Parade. Since ANSWER LA quit marching against our wars, this annual sidewalk procession from one of the least advantaged neighborhoods to the glitziest mall in Pasadena is one of the few opportunities we have to march for peace. This was our third time in the Palm Sunday parade, which added many creative attention-getting features this year to the format of the past 11 years.
Standing in for donkeys were two ponies, leading the parade along with a 12-foot puppet of Lady Wisdom, a rare female in the Old Testament. She occupied the corner in front of the post office, across Colorado Boulevard from the mall, where we gathered after the parade for songs and speeches. And some street theater. On the other corner across the street, in front of the old Citibank building, was a rolling cage manned by masked guys representing the forces of greed. They lured a businessman and a soldier into the jail with bags of money and a good sound system playing Pink Floyd's "Money." But on Palm Sunday, Lady Wisdom set everybody free.
We took lots of photos, some of which Anni will post later.

Even a couple of the sweet members at Curves had participated in this event in years past. They were thrilled to hear of theatrics being added.
