The following is an brief explanation of how "The Oldest Rock in Sunland-Tujunga" came to be a part of our 4th of July Parade: Hello River Rockers, Our Mascot, The Oldest Rock in Sunland Tujunga, will be appearing in the 4th of July Parade this year! What to expect: Arrive at the staging area a block or so behind Al Read's about 9:30 or so on July 4th. Parade starts at 10 and we usually get underway by about 10:30. Comfortable shoes and a hat for the sun are recommended. Also, be aware that one of the parade spectators my squirt you with a water gun! It hasn't happened for a couple of years but is always a possibility. Then afterwards, we all go to brunch somewhere! Being in the parade with The Rock offers a fascinating glimpse of our community. Many get the joke immediately (The Rock is, after all, basically a performance art piece) but others do not. There are quite mixed reactions. Alas, I will be away on film location, but my friend, David Toyne, the person who "discovered" the rock in the film, will be driving the truck.
A short YouTube Video follows so that we all get the "history" and the joke.
