Anni snapped this photo at the Montrose Peace Vigil on Friday, August 30, 2014. Montrose Peace Vigil started in January 2006 -- and we have not missed one week on the corner since. If you can't visit us at Ocean View Boulevard and Honolulu Avenue between 5:30 and 7 p.m. on any given Friday, we hope to hear from you on this message board. It's open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, courtesy of the fine people who run ProBoards not far away in Rancho Cucamonga, California. Guests are always allowed to post here -- you don't have to register or log in to reply to any page. RAPP, the Read and Practice Peacemaking group of Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church, has sponsored five free screenings of documentaries at the church since last February. And Montrose Peace Vigil is proud to have co-sponsored three of those movie nights immediately after our weekly vigils. We'll return to the church -- 2700 Montrose Ave. in Montrose, CA 91020 -- at 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 12, for "The Revisionairies." If you're reading this beforehand and you'll be in Los Angeles County that day, please plan to come -- everybody is welcome. For details before the event and for the discussion afterwards, visit this page on the Montrose Peace Vigil message board: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/thread/381/september-12-2014-rapp-movie

Perhaps the latest call to war will draw some new peaceniks and old friends to the corner. I hope so -- this picture captures our comradery, a peaceful respite from what could be total demoralization of endless war. Montrose Peace Vigil as seen around 6:15 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2014. As I said last month, guests are invited to reply anywhere on this message board. You just need to type a name for yourself and a CAPTCHA code, which members don't have to do. What I didn't mention is that guests can also create threads. Click on any of the six departments you see on the homepage and you'll reach an index page. Then click on the brown Create Thread button on top. Here is an example from last week, "Life on a pale blue dot," in the Life department: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/thread/391/life-on-pale-blue-dotUnfortunately, all guest posts come with that goofy generic avatar. Consider joining: Members can have their own personal avatars or choose to have none. We are able to edit and delete our posts, and we can insert and download PDF's and other kinds of attachments, to name a few of the benefits. If you register here, Anni or I will approve your membership within hours and notify you with an automated e-mail. Please come back and log in. Thanks to Mike, a long time Montrose Peace Vigil regular on the corner, for that wonderful post -- his first on the message board.

Roberta and Nancy passing out candy to kids at the merchants' Spooktacular this Halloween. Suddenly, it's November, which means that members of Montrose Peace Vigil and our friends are getting ready to march our custom built Peace Train in the Montrose Christmas Parade, this year on Saturday, December 6, our fifth consecutive annual entry. We hope you will consider joining us this year -- and find out how much fun we've been having. You can follow the planning of Peace Train 2014, and soon see some photos, in this developing thread elsewhere on the message board: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/thread/400/fifth-peace-montrose-christmas-parade

Pictured are 13 of the 16 participants in the Montrose Peace Vigil on December 19, 2014. In January 2015, Montrose Peace Vigil will mark our 9th anniversary of gathering every Friday evening from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on the corner of Ocean View Boulevard and Honolulu Avenue in Montrose, California. In between vigils, we also get together online. The link below will take you to the only page on this message board -- Recent Posts -- that shows the latest post first from every thread. I snapped these photos at the Montrose Peace Vigil on January 30, capturing all of the participants except myself, if you count Bill's leg above. We had eight protesters instead of the weekly average of 13. The regulars who couldn't come last Friday happened to choose a good vigil to miss -- the city had spread fertilizer over every patch of grass in town, as it does periodically. That's why most of us held signs on the concrete. Anni, below left, was among the few to stand briefly on the grass. Her nose was still stuffed up from a cold. Things should be back to normal this week. We hope that you will consider stopping by any Friday between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m. You'll find us on the northwest corner of Ocean View Boulevard and Honolulu Avenue in Montrose, CA 91020.

Our vigil as viewed on February 27, 2015, courtesy of Montrose's new diagonal pedestrian crossing. After just two weeks, it appears that diagonal crossing at the intersection of Ocean View Boulevard and Honolulu Avenue is going to benefit everybody. Montrose Peace Vigil has occupied the northwest corner every Friday evening since January 2006, and although we've seen some near collisions between pedestrians and vehicles, I feel lucky that we have never witnessed any accidents. Now we have people walking on all sides of the vigil while every vehicle is stopped -- a greater opportunity to engage with all kinds of passersby. And soon Daylight Savings Time will be here and our entire vigil will be conducted in daylight. We're usually the only people standing still. Please come by -- and help to advertise for peace and justice -- any Friday from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
