Greetings, Friends and Neighbors,
I have included you in this email because I'm pretty sure that you are a part of the American economy and it's likely that you know some who are struggling, even if you aren't. Wouldn't you like to make sense of it, to understand why there is so much need in a world of abundance? How can we sort through the noisy right and wrong rhetoric to see what's really going on? In "Inequality For All" Robert Reich promises to present information deep enough so that the labels of liberal and conservative become irrelevant. He does not claim that total equality is necessary, but he asks, "When does inequality become a problem?" After previewing the film, I think Reich, a professor at Berkley and former Secretary of Labor, delivers on his promise.
Some of you at CVUMC heard a reading from Matthew 6 this morning about the futility of storing up treasures on earth. Thieves and rust and moths will deplete the possessions we cling to, so we might as well release our grip and focus on taking care of each other. Reich has some history and charts showing that that kind of approach has actually made for a healthy economy.
I hope you can join us on the 20th and see the film and stay for refreshments and conversation afterwards. And to nudge our system a little closer to equality, we'll have some letters for you to sign and send to senators and congressman.
Peace,
Jeanne

The official trailer for Robert Reich's documentary, "Inequality for All."I look forward to the screening of "Inequality for All" on Friday, February 20, at 7:30 p.m. at Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church, 2700 Montrose Ave. in Montrose, CA 91020. Doors open at 7:00. CVUMC might be the finest local venue to watch a DVD, with big dual screens and good sound. Pastor Steve, the church members and Read and Practice Peacemaking group stalwarts Jeanne and Edmond, who put together these movie nights, also make the community room downstairs a great place to hang out afterwards for everybody, including nonmembers like me. Please come by and feel welcome, as I do. The church's website: www.cvumc.org/

Jeanne e-mailed this gentle and peaceful reminder today for the RAPP Movie Friday, February 20th. Doors open at 7:00 pm.The movie starts at 7:30 at the church.
We have letters for legislators on making EITC improvements permanent, and handouts about CLUE. CVUMC member and union organizer Victor Marrero has a horror story to tell downstairs after the film.
I got some soft drinks and will order coffee.
We are lining up "The House I LIve In" for March 13th. It looks like PCU and Justice Not Jails will be supporting and sending a speaker.
