It's possible that our e-mails and petitions helped push the Menendez-Kirk proposal for new sanctions on Iran off the Senate's legislative table for the time being. Now we face the Corker-Graham attempt to derail the negotiations. The Friends Committee on National Legislation has a customizable letter for your Senators, asking them to speak out for peace -- and a process that's currently working: www.capwiz.com/fconl/issues/alert/?alertid=64054491&type=CO

Minutes after President Obama released his proposed Authorization for the Use of Military Force to Congress, peace groups hit send on their e-mail blasts. I got four links to activism -- from Win Without War, Peace Action West, national Peace Action and the Friends Committee on National Legislation -- and as usual FCNL said it best for me, a political realist: www.capwiz.com/fconl/issues/alert/?alertid=64119551&type=COFCNL sent the first e-mail before I left for work Wednesday morning. In my car, Rep. Adam Schiff was on KNX-AM. Unlike the President, Schiff calls for the repeal of the 2001 AUMF in a 2015 war resolution. And our Congressman rules out U.S. ground troops in Iraq and Syria. Last summer, when Schiff introduced his pioneering war powers resolution, Tom Hayden said that it was probably the best deal that peaceniks could hope for in Congress -- especially because Schiff's AUMF would expire in 18 months, just weeks before the 2016 election when everybody in this country would have to address war again. The President wants three more years.
