Here's Thom Hartmann on FDR's proposal for a 2nd Bill Of Rights:
Part 1:
Part 2:
Another clip on the subject is at:
It's kinda sad that a Bill of Rights was ever necessary. By attempting to list them, any and all rights that didn't get didn't make the list were made even more vulnerable to being dropped.
Even for the rights that have been listed, some people badly misinterpret them. For example, the importance of the word "effects" within the 4th amendment has been getting ignored recently.
The 4th amendment of the US Constitution:
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and EFFECTS, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Here's a Thom Hartmann interview with an NSA proponent who thinks the NSA policies are fine:
When an official declares that "nobody" or "no one" is listening to our phone calls, I always wish they'd also say that "nothing" is listening to our phone calls either. ONLY electronic machines could listen to ALL of our calls and if those machines flag something, I suspect that for some people such a flag is enough "probable cause" to allow a human to just listen in too. Our phone calls and data are our "effects" so it seems wrong to use machines with speech recognition to violate the 4th amendment while telling us that nobody is listening.
Here's an interesting interview on the history of the 2nd amendment.
George Carlin's take on the Rights (warning: he likes heretical swearing):
