Anni and I went to watch "Youth" just because it features three of our favorite actors of our generation -- Michael Caine, Harvey Keitel and, however briefly, Jane Fonda -- and lucked into the best film that we've seen in 25 years. We can't stop talking about it. This trailer is only a taste.

You know I'm even wanting to see 'Youth' again, and it's not just because I'm old...I'm thinking it's a larger than life film.

I started this thread with "Youth" because I fully expected the film to be nominated for various Oscars. It only got one, for Best Song. Just goes to show how out of touch we are with the Academy's voters and moviegoers in general. The last movie that Anni and I loved that much was Wim Wenders' "Until the End of the World" in 1991, which we first saw on premium cable. We still have to watch a videotape that we made back then because the DVD is not available in a U.S. format.
Clearly, we don't get out much, but somehow we saw three other nominated films this year -- including "What Happened, Miss Simone?" -- nominated for Best Documentary Feature. Here's the official trailer:
We will also be rooting for multi-nominees "Spotlight" and "The Big Short."

I saw the Nina Simone doc. It's a powerful telling of her life story and her unique gifts. She spent time with MLK and differed with him about nonviolence. She had a lot of rage about racial injustice. She confessed that to him and he told her he understood. (Those are my words.) I felt emotionally wrung out after watching it, caring for Nina and her tragic life because her music has moved me so much.
