Enjambre covers "Who'll Stop the Rain" on the brand new "Quiero Creedence" album: www.amazon.com/Quiero-Creedence-Various-Artists/dp/B01GHYRKK0
I read about this album in the Los Angeles Times two days after it was released on July 29, and I ordered the CD immediately. I'm glad I did, although not all of the 14 recordings in English and Spanish -- mostly hit singles along with a few deep album cuts from Creedence Clearwater Revival's five year run -- are worthwhile.
After nearly five decades, I welcome a fresh way to experience John Fogerty's songs. I've been a fan of Los Lobos, who cover "Bootleg," and Los Lonely Boys, with "Born on the Bayou," since both bands formed. And the exquisite Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top teams with La Marisoul for "Green River." But I'm only beginning to learn about the rest of the artists -- who are hugely and justly famous in the Spanish speaking world.
When I was a teenage idiot, I took three years of German. Because I couldn't find anyone outside of high school to speak the language with me, I've forgotten most of it. Perhaps "Quiero Creedence" will become my gateway into learning Spanish. Or, at least, singing lines like "rolling en el rio."

That got me nostalgic for the original version, so I'm looking it up.
This isn't a Spanish version of Strawberry Fields, but it's a version inspired by and dedicated to the migrant workers who pick our fruit.

You've probably heard about the death on Sunday of singer/songwriter Juan Gabriel, the best selling artist in Mexican history. Gabriel released this video of "Have You Ever Seen the Rain? (Gracias al Sol)" last May, his contribution to the "Quiero Creedence" album, which has 9 million views on You Tube:
As John Fogerty said in a statement, "My heart is heavy and very sad today for Juan Gabriel has passed away. Juan is a legend in the world of Latin Music and someone that I truly admire. He has written and recorded hundreds of beautiful songs and recently had recorded a wonderful version of my song 'Have You Ever Seen The Rain' that I love very much. We had talked about performing this song together and I was looking forward to a new friendship with this amazingly talented man."

Thanks for posting this. I wasn't familiar with Juan Gabriel but Sunday while we were at the Casa our friends Nancy and Oscar came by. He's from Mexico and got the news on his cell phone while we were sitting on the veranda talking. He was greatly saddened. Condolences to all his fans and loved ones.
