I first learned about this book in a discussion on Ralph Nader's weekly radio show (which can be heard here: ralphnaderradiohour.com/the-minds-of-animalsincome-inequality/ ). I thought it might make a good gift for someone in my family, so I went to a book store and read some chapters. I realized it could also be a gift for another family member, too, and now I'm interested in reading it myself. Nader isn't known for fiction, but I've enjoyed what I've read so far. The premise is based on an invention that allows humans to be able to communicate with all species on the planet. What would they have to say to us? Species from around the world have a Skype-like conference (they can now understand each other, too) and discuss a presentation they're preparing for people of the world. There's to be an insects contingent, mammals, domesticated pets, and on and on. Crickets have ideas for music, a shark suggests appealing to human egos, bats see value in educating people on the benefits animals have provided (medicinally, technologically, etc.). Much of the book is comprised of this meeting. www.goodreads.com/book/show/29358395-animal-envy
