Today there was a discussion about the role fear plays in racism and scapegoating. Letters & Politics (which originates from KPFA in Berkeley) talked to Martha Nussbaum, author of the Monarchy of Fear. At one point she goes back to the Hansel and Gretel story and points out that the cause of the family's problems is insufficient employment, yet the story focuses on the witch in the forest. And once the witch is pushed into her oven, everything is okay. Today people may blame Indigenous for their problems and think that building a wall will take care of it all. Then they may blame women, who are "taking all the good jobs."
