In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed. Mark 1:35
Dear Friends, We have just completed another blessed season of Sunday morning hikes and Scripture journaling. We are four chapters into the Gospel of Mark and have read enough to get a sense of the importance of place in the story. Jesus moves quickly to and from a variety of locations, beginning with the Jordan River where he was baptized, on to the wilderness, into towns. beside seas, across seas, into synagogues, grain fields and deserted places. And so we also find significance in the wilderness setting of Walk and Word. The steps we take on the gravel trails through the chaparral bring us close to this little piece of Creation. We hear birds and the trickle of the recently renewed creek and feel grateful to be present. I am sharing a few photos of what fed our eyes when we looked up. Every week brings new delights and discoveries. Unlike Jesus, we do not head out while it is still dark. Walk and Word meets at Deukmejian Wilderness Park at 8 AM on the second, third and fourth Sunday of each month. We hike for one hour and then read and reflect on Scripture for second hour. We would love to have you along. If you have any questions, please contact me at jnlavieri@earthlink.net or at (818) 383-3137. If you are unable to hike, there are many beautiful vistas accessible by wheelchair. All are welcome. Peace, Jeanne L.

The Cresecenta Valley Weekly regularly runs announcements about Walk and Word in the Notes & Nods section of its Religion pages. Here's the copy from the latest edition of the newspaper:

So fun to see several Walk and Worders at the movie (Hidden Figures) last night. Janice, Jeanne, Amy, and me. And that's where we met Pat P. who's a friend now, but not necessarily a Walk and Worder! Maybe you'll join us one of these Sundays.

The Crescenta Valley Weekly said that Walk & Word will not be happening for a while, that was for the general public. We (people who have been walking and wording, pre-pandemic) will be meeting at Deulmajian Park, Sunday mornings (except the 1st Sunday of each month). Only for folks that have been participating in the past, (AKA "regulars").

There are a lot more people out walking in our neighborhood, and riding bikes, etc. Some dads are home and able to be out teaching their children sports. We watched a dad show a young boy how to shoot hoops yesterday. There are more wildlife roaming the streets too. A coyote came strolling around the corner of our house a couple of hours ago when Bill was standing at the kitchen sink, Bill tapped on the glass and the coyote gave him a dirty look, trotted down our front walk way, pissed at the corner and went on down the driveway. Carry coyote hazing equipment when you're out walking just in case. Hope you don't run into any mountain lions or bears.
