I'm thinking Pastor Paige is on holiday, this week, I hope having a GREAT time. Are we still having Hope in Hard Times, this Thursday, August, 6th???
Yes, anni, Paige is away on her honeymoon. After seven years of marriage, she and Forrest were finally able to schedule that. We will have Hope In Hard Times this Thursday. The speaker is Frank Jameson, a marriage and family therapist. He will be talking about staying positive in hard times. 11am-1pm. C'mon down.

Hi all - I'm back with a tan, relaxed and ready for more hope and peacemaking. Hope in Hard Times continues even in my absence, because of course, I have such a stellar team. Coming up this week - August 13 - a hilarious duo from National Stores will give us advice on updating your style for the job hunt. Seems like just when you need to look your most put-together, there's no money to make it happen. Look forward to zippy tips and (I think) discount coupons.
11:00 - 1:00 on Thursday at the church!

11:00 - 1:00 on Thursday at the church! Thanks again, all, for an informative/fabulous afternoon. Helene and Alice were so fun and made what previously seemed to me a chore so evil I'd rather scrub your kitchen floor on my hands and knees with a toothbrush, than try to find the one outfit with super powers to land me the perfect job. These women made it seem naturally easy to co-ordinate and build an entire wardrobe on a few classic and classy essentials, then mix and match...and on a really afordable budget. Let's go shopping, in Van Nuys! You heard right: www.nationalstoresinc.com/Fallas Paredes 6633 Van Nuys Blvd. Van Nuys, CA 91411

anni's orzo salad was very, very good and the presentation fun and full of leads on bargains galore. Darn, anni, I guess I can't be counting on having you scrub my kitchen floor.

The next-to-last Hope in Hard Times gathering takes place this Thursday, Aug. 20, at the Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church, 2700 Montrose Ave. in Montrose.
The program listed on the flyer, "Accessing Survival Resources" with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services, starts at 11 a.m. and is followed by a wonderful light buffet lunch.
Anni and I can attest that the speakers at the previous six programs were informative, responsive and a joy to hear.

Anni's enjoyed every Hope in Hard Times gathering at the Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church since July 9 -- except for the one she had to miss -- and I was fortunate enough to be able to leave work for two of them.
This Thursday, August 27 marks the final topic of the series. Marriage and family therapist Megan Bearce will talk about "Creating Opportunity Out of Crisis" starting at 11 a.m. followed by a light buffet lunch at noon.
Pastor Paige's church, of course, is at 2700 Montrose Ave. in Montrose. Martine, Anni and I passed another United Methodist Church on the corner of Highland and Franklin many times this past week and always welcomed its huge signage supporting torture accountability and marriage equality.
