Virginia Classick of the Los Angeles Region Religious Campaign Against Torture sent me an e-mail two weeks ago that I finally pass along (after our vacation and fire distractions) about a commemoration of the United Nations' International Peace Day that her group is cosponsoring soon:
I hope that you can come to the program, "Religious Faith, Human Rights and the Soul of Our Nation," which will be held on Monday evening, Sept. 21st, 7:00-9:00 PM, at Holy Spirit Retreat Center in Encino. Our keynote speaker, Dr. Sarah Sentilles, wrote her dissertation at Harvard Divinity School on the Abu Ghraib photographs. She is a profound speaker. This will be an interfaith program, with Rabbi Jerrold Goldstein and Dr. Maher Hathout as respondents.
We heard Dr. Hathout speak at the Interfaith Peacemaking Forum last February and he was a joy. I'm sure that Paige (board member of another cosponsor, Progressive Christians Uniting) and Jeanne are already clued into this event. If anyone else is interested, I'd be glad to post more info from the PDF flyer I got from their mutual friend Virginia. Or call (818) 285-3357.
