Jim with the front panel of the Peace Train last Christmas. One of my favorite pictures ever! This year we will be listed as the Montrose/Glendale Peace Vigils -- after going with the alphabet and seniority last year, I put Montrose first this year. Next week is the deadline for making our tax-deductable donation to the Montrose Christmas Parade Association. No doubt they will take whatever they can get, whenever they can get it, however I will be gleefully accepting donations of any size at the corner tomorrow. Toot-toot, chug-chug, off we go! Modified to add the date of this year's parade -- Saturday, December 1 -- and the official link:www.montrosechristmasparade.com/2012Event.htm

Roberta said she's getting fewer volunteers this year to carry the train so I posted the blurb in the FB Sunland-Tujunga Bluenecks group. Maybe we'll get some more participants.

Despite an unrelenting light drizzle throughout Saturday evening, the Montrose Christmas Parade attracted a large, enthusiastic crowd all along the sidewalks of Honolulu Avenue -- waving, clapping and calling out warm greetings. Our Montrose/Glendale Peace Vigil partnership drew a good turnout as well, with more people outside the train than those pulling it. In the last block, we invited bystanders to join us. Some did!
I could not see all 100-plus entries, but it's safe to say that we were the only group carrying our float, which limited our speed. I think everybody else marching or riding on flatbeds or in convertibles were moving faster than they did in past years because of the constant precipitation. We could not see or hear the marching band immediately in front of us at the beginning of the parade for most of the route. So the spectators could hear our new sound system playing Cat Stevens' "Peace Train" and various train noises and whistles, engineered by Mike: directional speakers on a PVC pole powered by a 12-volt car battery.
There's so much more happiness and gratitude to recount, do you agree? And lots of photos to post.

There's so much more happiness and gratitude to recount ... Yes, we will surely be recapping this throughout the Christmas/Chanukah/Festivus/Solstice season. I want to start with my heartfelt thanks to Anni. In addition to (partial list) assisting the conductor and carrying the locomotive, she also washed nearly all the dishes, so last night very soon after we stashed the train pieces, I was lounging with my feet up, a novel, and the remains of Jeanne's garlic bread. Maybe someone, perhaps during a school break, will help me carry the beautiful front of the Peace Train up to the corner. On a Friday without a smidgen of rain.

Sure, I can help carry the train for a Friday. The Montrose Patch is soliciting photos of the parade. The marchers at the back of the Peace Train last December 1. All month, I've been searching for streaming video from the International Christian Family Network's website: www.icfn.tv/index.php?option=com_hwdvideoshare&task=viewcategory&cat_id=12&Itemid=191Type "Montrose Christmas Parade" in the second search field on the right, the green rectangle. It's December 27, and all I get when I click on the magnifying glass icon is a page with the 2010, 2011 and 2009 videos. I will keep trying -- if the 2012 parade goes online, I will post the link in this thread.
