Welcome to the sixth page of our "Guests are welcome!" thread. If you are new to the Montrose Peace Vigil message board, it might be a little confusing. We don't have our own website with fancy graphics. This forum hosted by ProBoards is organized into topics made up of individual posts, 10 per page, accessed through six departments from the homepage. Everybody who visits can read and reply, not just members. If you can't come to the corner of Ocean View Boulevard and Honolulu Avenue in Montrose, California between 5:30 and 7 p.m. on Fridays -- where we've stood every week since January 2006 -- we hope you will speak up here. This is a link to our 25 most recent posts on every topic that we're discussing. From there, you can click on the name of the topic above each post to see the context: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=recent

For years, right before our Friday vigils, the shopping park association has removed the flag that otherwise flies 24 hours a day over the Montrose Vietnam War Memorial. Since September, we have hoisted a telescoping auxiliary flagpole that displays a flag at half mast. On it we post the official Department of Defense announcements from the past week of those who have died in service, mostly in Afghanistan. You'll find more photos and short reports about that and our other recent activities in the March Vigils thread: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=216&page=1Montrose Peace Vigil started April by participating in the Palm Sunday Peace Parade in nearby Pasadena, where it was announced that Congressman Adam Schiff had finally decided that the war in Afghanistan must end. Scroll down for Roberta's fantastic post about her call from the press aide in Schiff's office: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk2&action=display&thread=219&page=1

A few of the 16 participants at the Montrose Peace Vigil on May 11. Everyone is welcome to hang out with us on Friday evenings -- and to post on this message board anytime. You do not have to register to post. Click on "reply" in the blue bars at the top or bottom of any page.

Anni and Jim take down Montrose Peace Vigil's replacement flag and pole after a recent vigil. When Congressman Adam Schiff came to the aid of a local Episcopal church, our Roberta, Montrose Peace Vigil's coordinator, had an epiphany. If Rep. Schiff could help to replace the multi-national flags stolen from the church -- the thieves left only the American flag -- would he consider looking into the long-standing, weekly removal of the American flag by the shopping park association during our vigils? Roberta wrote a letter to Schiff and rounded up 27 of his constituents to address and sign individual copies, including many members of Glendale Peace Vigil and Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church. Then she got an appointment with Schiff's district director on July 30 to deliver them. This page on the message board starts with Roberta's first draft and ends with Jeanne's wonderful report of the meeting: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk2&action=display&thread=233&page=1

Brian has posted for years about the weekly removal of the American flag on the corner where we protest every Friday. So we are duty bound to report that for the past three Fridays -- so far -- the flag is back! We will miss our custom-engineered replacement flagpole, but we enjoy seeing this again looking just like this:

Here's a pic of last week's Vigil (10/26/12): If you're in the neighborhood between 5:30 and 7:00 stop by, hold a sign and stand for peace with us in the last Vigil during daylight savings. Also the first Vigil of November.

The view from the rear of the Peace Train at the staging area for last year's Christmas parade. Montrose Peace Vigil will join with Glendale Peace Vigil to march our Peace Train in the Montrose Christmas Parade for the third year in a row. And we are pleased that our organizations are again listed as Supporters of the Montrose Christmas Parade Association on the official website and in the full-page newspaper ad. We invite everyone to board the Peace Train with us on Saturday, December 1, at 6 p.m. along Honolulu Avenue in Montrose, Calif. Until then, we'll be posting in this thread on the message board: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=242
