My candidate Amy Klobuchar was better than ever, simply perfect, but will her performance matter with so many others on tonight's debate stage generating greater enthusiasm among the Democrats who are paying attention in the late summer of 2019?
Amy's building a good organization in Iowa, I hear, so she stands to benefit as Joe Biden inevitably erodes. She could become the next John Kerry, who took the Iowa caucus from Howard Dean in 2004 -- and she'd be a much stronger candidate in the general election than he was, to say the very least.
That's me trying to be pragmatic. I keep wondering if I'm wrong. Elizabeth Warren has proven to be a fantastic campaigner, gaining in the polls as she wins hearts and minds two by two everywhere she goes. Could Elizabeth inspire more people to vote in November 2020 than Amy could grab from the moderate Democrats and old fashioned Republicans who think Elizabeth is too radical but who don't like Trump? I keep wondering.
I believe that Julian Castro not only blew up his campaign, he ruined his chances of being chosen by any eventual presidential nominee as vice president because of his ageist remark and his demeanor toward Joe Biden while arguing about health insurance. Worse, he had already mischaracterized what Joe said. Then he refused to back down when Chris Matthews interviewed him on MSNBC afterwards. Too bad -- I like him.

I thought Amy Klobuchar's closing statement sounded Republican light - turned me off completely. Elizabeth Warren seemed to be presidential, I think she and Pete Buttigieg had the best nights. Andrew Yang is certainly interesting but the "I'm Asian.. ' remark was just stupid, not that he had much of a chance anyway. Still, all of them were obviously so much more qualified than the current occupant of the White House.

I kept finding myself wanting to hear Tulsi Gabbard's answers to the questions asked. I think Bernie did very well in a lot of ways, but while he boasted about not falling for the Iraq WMDs, he continued repeating CIA talking points regarding Venezuela. I thought Elizabeth Warren spoke well.
Whenever questioners bring up the high cost of universal health care, I always wish someone would reply, "How come no one ever asks how we're going to pay for a new generation of nuclear weapons or missile shields that everyone knows don't work?"

I think Bernie did very well in a lot of ways, but while he boasted about not falling for the Iraq WMDs, he continued repeating CIA talking points regarding Venezuela.
There's a call for Bernie supporters (or in my case would-be Bernie Sanders supporters) to phone his Washington office telling him to change his stance on Venezuela.
From Voices From the Front Lines with Eric Mann (KPFK):
Call on Bernie Sanders to withdraw his call to overthrow the government of Venezuela.
"Let me be very clear. Anyone who does what Maduro does is a vicious tyrant. We need international and regional cooperation for free elections so the Venezuelan people can create their own future."
Bernie Sanders, Democratic Debate Sunday September 15
Call his office today, Bernie Sanders: (202) 224-5141
"Senator Sanders. Withdraw your demand for an international force to invade Venezuela. U.S. Hands off Venezuela. Stop your slander of President Nicolas Maduro, issue an apology to the Venezuelan people, and join the anti-intervention movement now!"
Sanders attack on Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro was in response to the challenge to his socialism by anti-communist Univision commentator Jorge Ramos.
"You admit that Venezuela does not have free elections and yet you refuse to call Maduro a dictator. Can you explain why and what are the differences between your kind of socialism and that being imposed on Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua."
Sanders imperialist socialism is an attack on the self-determination of the people of Venezuela and Latin America and the peace, non-intervention, and anti-imperialist movements
This is the answer that any decent human being and any decent Sanders supporter would have expected. It is the retraction and new statement that we demand he make now!
"To begin with, his name is duly elected President Nicolas Maduro. Calling him "Maduro" is racist and insulting. I believe that the nations of Latin America have the right of self-determination. It is our government our CIA, that is destabilizing the government of Venezuela the way they have done so to El Salvador, Nicaragua, Cuba in the past since the Monroe Doctrine. I am worried that we have so many Black people in prison in the U.S., have violated the human and voting rights of Black and Latinos, that we cannot have free elections in the U.S. I call on the U.N. to intervene in the U.S. to protect our voting rights now. I would never call for a "regional and international force" (which simply means the U.S. government) to call for "free elections" when in fact Nicolas Maduro was elected through free elections. I do not want to in any way lead to the violent overthrow and possible assassination of President Maduro by repeating the lies of calling him a "vicious tyrant'" I want to distance myself from the U..S. ideology expressed by Henry Kissinger just before the fascist coup in Chile that assassinated duly elected President Salvador Allende." “I don’t see why we need to stand by and watch a country go communist because of the irresponsibility of its own people.” —Henry Kissinger, June 27, 1970

This afternoon and into early evening there was a hand-made Tulsi '20 sign over the Pasadena Freeway--one on each side of the overpass, so drivers could see it in both directions.

How cool, Oss Rae. It's great to hear about Tulsi's supporters grabbing eyeballs in the 3D world.
They've been out in force online. That You Tube clip you posted here three weeks ago with Tulsi on Fox News talking about her exclusion from the Democratic presidential debate had 11,000 views and hundreds of comments in the first few hours when I first saw it. Now it has more than 194,000 views and 3,900 comments.

Tulsi Gabbard will return to the Democratic presidential debates on CNN on Tuesday, October 15, joining the ten candidates who were onstage at last month's debate along with billionaire Tom Steyer.
Last Friday, Tulsi became the last prominent House Democrat to call for Trump's impeachment, five days after I came to the same conclusion.

I was glad that Tulsi Gabbard returned to the stage at tonight's Democratic presidential debate -- until I heard her repeat the rants I've been getting lately in her campaign's e-mail blasts. I contributed when she announced her candidacy. Lately, the tone has turned dark and Trumpian, accusing the Democratic National Committee of rigging the system against her and the media of running fake news about her. For days, she threatened to boycott the debate in protest against the DNC. Now I wish that she had stayed home. Her answers on Syria and abortion were embarrassing.
I have to wonder if she is trying to appeal to voters who supported Ron Paul in the Republican primaries in 2008. They were passionate. Some of them came to the corner to hang out with Montrose Peace Vigil, bearing their signs and conspiracy theories.
Tulsi's polling at one percent nationally, putting her among four candidates who may not qualify for next month's debate, including Beto O'Rourke, Julian Castro and my pick Amy Klobuchar. The number of podiums may be reduced from 12 to 8.

I thought Warren, Booker and Harris looked good last night.
