Montrose Peace Vigil enjoyed a good turnout and great vibe for Christmas on the corner of Ocean View and Honolulu at our usual time from 5:30 to 7 p.m. This Friday, we'll celebrate New Year's Day there as well. The weather promises to be even better, maybe the traffic too -- hope you can make it! The following afternoon, Anni and I will head to the corner of Broadway and Brand to join the Glendale Peace Vigil for a rare Saturday gathering. From the end of our "December vigils" thread: ...all are welcome to join us on January 2, 2010 - from 5 to 7 pm.
Dinner and/or drinks available at BJ's afterward, too - with the possibility of some good conversation. www.bjsbrewhouse.com/ Thank you for the invitation, Sharon -- count Anni and me for dinner (and me for the ale) at BJ's.

Thanks to Sharon, Bill and Nancy from the Glendale Peace Vigil for coming to the corner in Montrose on New Year's Day for our first Friday gathering of 2010. Many businesses were open, frozen yogurt was available again and the foot and wheel traffic was much heavier than Christmas. So was the attendance -- 12 compared to nine last week. It was great to see Jeanne and Linda back from their travels.
Before Anni and I walked away from our car, we met Steve, who had read about the Montrose Peace Vigil in a newspaper story last year and decided to drop by to find out more. We wound up talking the entire time about our experiences in political activism in L.A. over the past 35 years, among other topics, and I hope to see him there again and here on the message board.
Some of us are descending from these northern mountains and valleys with our signs and candles to the corner of Brand and Broadway for the Glendale Peace Vigil's Saturday night special tonight from 5 to 7 p.m. with dinner afterwards at BJ's.

It was so good to have Roberta and Brian visit our Glendale vigil last night for unusual Saturday meeting. And Red showed up so we had live music!
Dinner at BJ's afterward was great fun too, sorry Roberta had to leave early. We should do more vigil visitations!

Dinner at BJ's afterward was great fun too, sorry Roberta had to leave early. We should do more vigil visitations! Thank you, Sharon! I'd love to come back to Brand and Broadway again. As Nancy K. pointed out to me, you guys really engage the streams of drivers and pedestrians -- and the Saturday evening holiday traffic, dizzying to a Montrose-bred boy, was said to be lighter than the average Friday when the Glendale Peace Vigil usually gathers. There are many hundreds of peaceful impressions possible from 5 to 7 p.m. My count of participants was 13, including two teenage boys who joined briefly and asked if they could keep the signs. I also enjoyed dinner afterwards at BJ's, meeting and talking with other Glendale regulars.

A few months have passed since I updated my list of the monthly average number of participants at the Montrose Peace Vigil, which I started the Friday after the election when this message board was new: - Nov. 2008 - 16.5
- Dec. - 13.6
- Jan. 2009 - 14.0
- Feb. - 14.5
- Mar. - 15.2
- Apr. - 12.4
- May - 16.2
- June - 14.5
- July - 14.3
- Aug. - 11.5
- Sept. - 15.3
- Oct. - 12.2
- Nov. - 9.3
- Dec. - 14.0
Numbers can be funny, so we have exactly the same average attendance at the beginning of 2009 as at the end, 14 demonstrative persons. The overall average for 2009 was 13.6, the same as Dec. 2008. Thanks to all who show up on the corner, whenever they can. You always count.

Thanks to the perfect weather -- and because of six middle school students who showed up early at 5:20, flashing peace signs at the traffic with their fingers before Roberta arrived with her signs -- a total of 17 people participated in Friday's Montrose Peace Vigil. And the kids stayed until 7!
Jim was back with his big beautiful flag. Louisa and I argued about the Republicans' chances of taking back the House in 2010 but agreed that we must do some things to prevent it. And, I must say, the highlight of our evening was a return visit to the corner from Michael.

At least three Montrose Peace Vigil regulars were off traveling this Friday, but four middle school age boys joined briefly to boost our number -- and our morale: - Jan. 1 - 12
- Jan. 8 - 17
- Jan. 15 - 13
Middle school teachers Jeanne and Cynthia kicked off their three-day weekend at the corner. To someone who might be reading this post from a hotel room, you surely must have heard how beautiful the weather's been -- and maybe about the four days of rain starting Sunday night. The latest predictions put the cumulative total as high as 16 inches up here and 8 on the coast.
