From the Jan. 20 edition of The Maui News: California resident Roberta Medford joins fellow demonstrators after a march Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. outside Maui Community College. On Friday, she was holding another sign at a place called Honolulu and Ocean View, but where it was downright chilly, although the rain had finally just stopped. Pedestrian traffic was light yet we had a great turnout without the help of any spontaneous participants, unlike the first three vigils this month: - Jan. 1 - 12
- Jan. 8 - 17
- Jan. 15 -13
- Jan. 22 - 12
All of the honks were for us. The counter-protesters failed to show up for the fourth time in two months.

A post script to your report on last night, Brian.
Roberta, Paige, Michael and I remained in the area for quite a while last night. We had plans to meet someone who got lost and then his phone ran out of juice but we didn't know that and we stood on the SW corner for quite a while. I still had my sign with me and we got more honks. A young man who works in the coffee bean asked us if we were the "peace people." He used to stand on a corner in Newton, MA. His vigil there was organized by a group that Howard Zinn belongs to. I say, if you're going to drop names, might as well drop Howard Zinn's.

I heard on the news that the full moon is closer to earth than it will be for the rest of the year, appearing 10 percent bigger and 25 percent brighter. The weather was much better on the corner for this Friday's vigil, and we tied last week's number of participants, again without anybody but the Montrose Peace Vigil stalwarts and a few returning fellow travelers like Sigrid, Tony, Paige and Jim. - Jan. 1 - 12
- Jan. 8 - 17
- Jan. 15 -13
- Jan. 22 - 12
- Jan. 29 - 12
The average number for January is 13.2, about one less person than December but four more than November and one more than October.

Jeanne,
It is not possible to drop Howard Zinn's name. That was an hommage, even more so since his recent death. We'll miss him.
Thank you, Sigrid

As Jon Stewart ended "The Daily Show" last Thursday; "Here it is your moment of Zinn".

One more thing as we've slipped in to Feb. I spoke to my step-daughter a week and a half ago. Good kid, called dear old dad for his b-day(50th, ugh). She's at Andrews now. Earlier that week she got called in, they thought they had a flight with patients on board. She's working medical on the flight line. Turns out there were no patients, just the SecState. She got to see Hillary get off the plane and drive off in a motorcade. The kid was pretty excited. She hasn't seen it yet, but will probably see AF-1 and possibly it's occupant.

Wow, Bill, that's a fantastic bit of news and a great B-day gift! That young woman is going places, for sure.

hey, that's cool Bill. If she flies with AF-1 to the west coast she and her fellow travelers can come to the corner!
