Thanks for info, Sharon, and Jeanne for a good suggestion. Since we already have ones with green/blue on white, I'm too am thinking light green/violet would tie it all together! And I have retrieved the artwork from my old computer if that helps.

We'll be enjoying the booth at Glendale Cruise Night two weeks from now. Meanwhile, Glendale Peace Vigil will gather at the southwest corner of Brand and Broadway on Fridays from 5 to 7 p.m. -- half an hour longer than Montrose Peace Vigil, by the way -- as they have since 2003. At their vigil last week: Norman and Nancy, with Norman and Pearl's flag and sign cart behind. This photo was taken from the passenger window as Anni drove around the corner. Here's the link to Glendale Peace Vigil's official website: glendalepeacevigil.org

We're getting ready for -- and excited about -- Glendale Peace Vigil's booth at Glendale Cruise Night on Saturday, July 16, from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. You'll see many members of Montrose Peace Vigil there on California Avenue between Brand and Maryland. Here's the city's official webpage on the main event: www.glendalecruisenight.com/Roberta has drafted wonderful postcards and a menu for the War Budget Cafe, new to the booth this year, where people can hang out after spinning the wheel for free and choosing their prizes. Anni's making an official looking replica of a U.S. mailbox for depositing the postcards addressed to President Obama.

Since my last post, I've learned more about the cafe being set up at the end of the Glendale Cruise Night booth for people to write to President Obama. We're not making postcards, which would cost a lot more to mail and dilute our impact. Instead, we've laid out the messages on quarter sheets of letter size paper that we'll cut and later package together with a cover letter to the White House from the citizens of Glendale and surrounding cities. Folks at the cafe can order their message to sign from the Menu for Peace Activists -- the names of the items are in brackets:
[Mission Accomplished (Already)] I am glad that troop withdrawals will begin this year, Mr. President. But your plan will still leave nearly 70,000 American troops in Afghanistan a year from now. That is too long! Only the people of Afghanistan can build their nation -- our military occupation has not helped. We need our war $$$ here at home for education, health, jobs and infrastructure.
[War Is NOT The Answer] After nearly 10 years in Afghanistan, we have learned that war cannot combat terrorism. I urge a sharp decrease in the huge U.S. military presence all over the world. And I support cuts in spending on the military. We need our money here at home to create a future for our children and our grandchildren.
[Bring Our War $$$ Home] Here in Glendale, the recession has hurt our local budget. Schools, libraries, parks and public safety programs have been cut, with more cuts promised. Too much is being spent on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Bring these war $$$ home to meet urgent local needs, create jobs, rebuild infrastructure -- and develop a new economy based on renewable resources.
[What You Said, Mr. President] “These long wars will come to a responsible end. We need not deploy large armies overseas. It is time to focus on nation-building here at home.” (President Obama, June 22, 2011.) Well said, Mr. President! The time is now -- not three years from now as you proposed -- to bring the troops home from Afghanistan. And let us leave no soldiers behind in Iraq either.

What You Said, Mr. Anderson!!!
Brian took my over-long rhetoric and turned it into 1/4 sheets of succinct clarity, with room for the sender's name and contact info. Many, many thanks as always Brian for your way and willingness with words!
I'm off later to plug the "War Budget Cafe" at Glendale City Council tonight, AND to present a proclamation thanking them for approving "Mayors for Peace" and "War $$$ Home" on behalf of the people of Glendale.
Jeanne made a gorgeous art work of the proclamation, on a too-short deadline from your dithering organizer. I will bring a color copy to the corner for ooohing and aaahing.

Roberta was so fabulous at the beginning of her City Council presentation that it made me want to go to Glendale Cruise Night this Saturday, July 16, from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. Anni and I are on Nancy K's schedule to assist with the peaceful gaming activities at the booth from 7:30 to 8:30, but no doubt we'll be there before and after as well, hanging out at the War Budget Cafe. The attachment is the city's diagram of the booths along California Avenue on both sides of Brand Boulevard -- the Glendale Peace Vigil's is lucky number 13. Attachments:
