Oh, yes, we're at it again...It's happening at the Community Center of La Canada/Flintridge Sundays 2:00 pm thru 6:00 pm...unless you have a written excuse or Jeanne is otherwise occupied. Maybe there's a calendar, somewhere? I'll look for one...until then you'll just have to settle for some candid shots I took yesterday, July 10. You can have lots of clay history or just beginning to get your hands dirty, it's all fun, for real. And why are we making all these Empty Bowls? So that in November, folks can choose an Empty Bowl, have it filled with soup and donate generously to our E.B. Charity to help in shelters around L.A. and other parts of the world.

The Running of the Bowls resumes next Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Community Center of La Canada Flintridge, 4469 Chevy Chase Drive, after one week off while Jeanne was taking a clay free vacation. By my measure, only three months remain to create the bowls that will be chosen by folks attending the Crescenta Valley Empty Bowls fundraiser in November, then filled with soup made by some of the finest local chefs. Keep the bowl to remind yourself to do more good. For now, here's their official Facebook Wall: www.facebook.com/cvemptybowls?v=wall

We are more than half way through our bowl making workshops. We have had lots of helpers and have been cranking the bowls out. I have 32 finished bowls in my garage. Clay takes time. In recent weeks we have had a good glazing team and multitudes of bowls have been awaiting firing. We'll see some tomorrow and more on Wednesday. If you can guess the number closest to the number of completed bowls I have as of next Thursday, you will win a grayish, green, round, fetching mug from me, to be picked up at the corner on Friday. Hmm...I'm thinking of a number between 32 and 120.
If you'd like some inside information, stop by on Sunday between 2 and 6 and make some bowls and nose around.

Below are the "official guesses" from:
Anni = 51 finished bowls since end of June 2011
Brian = 88 finished bowls since end of June 2011
Where, oh where are the rest of the guesses?

Excellent guess, Edmond, but too late. I checked the board right before I went to the corner and Roberta's guess of 75 was the closest at the time. The number was 68. I'll have another mug in two weeks for the guesser closest to the number of finished bowls that I will have as of 9/8. Post your guess before 5 pm on 9/9.

I saw the mug that Roberta won in the contest -- it's a beauty. Thanks to Jeanne for holding another contest for Sept. 9. In a baldfaced attempt to get intelligence for my next guess, I went to the Running of the Bowls on Sunday and counted 22 finished bowls that Jeanne took home, but Anni thinks there were a few more. Adding 22 to the 68 in Jeanne's last post totals at least 90 bowls so far. I've attended the last three Crescenta Valley Empty Bowls fundraisers, but I never had gone to the Running of the Bowls at the Community Center of La Canada Flintridge before -- although Anni's been a regular for years -- because I have no artistry or manual dexterity. Still, it was fulfilling to hang out with the creators and observe the loving creation of the bowls that will be chosen by the donors in November, filled with soup and taken home -- to see the full circle of giving. I wasn't there long, but I managed to get my hands a little dirty. Here's the Running of the Bowls page on the recently updated CV Empty Bowls website: www.cvemptybowls.org/running-of-the-bowls.html
