Thanks, Roberta! We have Credo as our long distance carrier and we don't have cell phones, yet. I'm always in the mood to sign a petition about impeachment for bush and his slacker band of evil-doers...especially as I'm out the door to join my friends at our corner!!!

Another thing I don't know how to do, after I "take action", how to make a link to that action but without my info on the form. It remembers me no matter how craftily I try to sneak up on it. Anyway, here's a letter from several in Congress (I think we can guess which ones) asking Obama to rethink Afghanistan. They are trying to get other reps to sign on: capwiz.com/justforeignpolicy/issues/alert/?alertid=12874086&PROCESS=Take+Action

I have a another project for us to do while waiting for paint to dry--writing letters of support to the brave few soldiers who have refused to be sent/resent to Iraq. They have either been deported from Canada and have been court-martialed for going AWOL, or are waiting in Canada, appealing their deportation. I have materials from an organization called Courage to Resist, which I support with $$$, with addresses, the soldiers' stories, etc. I will supply stationery and postage. Just a few words of support, encouragement and sympathy from your heart, nothing elaborate. I'm glad Roberta let me take her materials home after the sign painting party because I spend more time with information on paper. And I've been moved by these former soldiers. Marian raised a good point: unless one is a total pacifist, should we be encouraging these men and women to go AWOL? There's a Nuremberg argument to be made, too long to do here. But reading their stories has showed me that many of them know what they're resisting first-hand because they served in Iraq or Afghanistan -- and they've put their bodies on the line for their beliefs by either facing prison time or already serving. Here's the homepage: www.couragetoresist.org/x/

If you don't get their e-mails, Credo started a fun webpage modeled on the college basketball brackets to choose the devils you know. The first round of voting ends four days from now: www.bracketofevil.comBased on my eight initial picks, it looks like Joe Lieberman and Blackwater will face in the final game of evil.

The Am. Civil Liberties Union is making progress on blasting out info on torture and other detention abuses: www.aclu.org/Click on "Voice Your Outrage" if you haven't already signed the petition to A-G Holder to appoint a Special Prosecutor.

Lobbying our leaders does work, or as the saying goes, if the people lead eventually the leaders will follow.
"As the only nuclear power to have used a nuclear weapon, the United States has a moral responsibility to act." (Pres. Obama yesterday in Prague announcing U.S. leadership to reduce, and eventually eliminate, atomic weapons.) "As the only nation to have used nuclear weapons, we have a moral duty to work toward a global ban." (One text on our "Can You Hear Us Now?" peace postcards, dozens mailed to Obama.)
We obviously have a powerful tool. Which message shall we use it to send next?

Thanks, I will incorporate these favorites on Afghanistan when I do up the next batch of cards. I also want to share that Obama, after quoting our postcard (he probably has one tacked up in his office somewhere), then gave a shout-out to the corner and to peace activists everywhere to keep it up:
"I know that a call to arms can stir the souls of men and women more than a call to lay them down, but that is why the voices for peace and progress must be raised together."
