Called Obama asking him to stop the surge in Afghanistan, pull out of Iraq & say "I'm sooo PLEASED to have some INTELLIGENCE in the White House & I'm just begging the president to use the wonderful intelligence that he has." Nancy

Here this is on page 5, for ease of signing???: Hi peaceniks, This is a project of the American Friends Service Committee. I think it is especially important to hold feet to the fire about Iraq now with the mini-surge in Afghanistan already announced to begin, even before the troops in Iraq come home. www.countdowntowithdrawal.org/

For those who haven't heard and might be interested, Code Pink has another unique campaign. They're raising $10 each for gift baskets to deliver to the women of Gaza in two weeks bearing "vitamins, first-aid materials and food items, but also sweet-smelling soaps and shampoos, a beautiful pink head scarf, sweets and tea" -- the baskets are both practical and pampering: salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/424/shop/custom.jsp?donate_page_KEY=4489

Hi all, I have to miss the corner this week. The 28th was a take-it-or-leave-it day for a 60th b-day party of a UCLA friend, and I wanted to take it! Anni and Brian will bring some of your favorite signs from the old bag (haha). Don't forget, Saturday March 14th, early afternoon on, peace sign-making at Marion's studio. Would be green to reuse many of my/our old signs, refreshing the messages and the appearance. Bring your own glitter, etc. Snacks/drinks will never go to waste. It is south on the Osborne exit from the 210, then left on Glenoaks. I will get the exact address. Here's an Afghanistan campaign from Peace Action West: act.peaceactionwest.org/peaceactionwest/issues/alert/?alertid=12711866

Seattle Sheriff Deputy Beat 15-Year-Old Girl In Seattle, a sheriff’s deputy has pleaded not guilty to fourth-degree assault after he was caught on videotape assaulting a fifteen-year-old girl in a jail cell. Video of the beating was released by prosecutors on Friday. In the video, a deputy kicks the girl, pushing her back toward the wall. The deputy then strongly backs the girl against the wall and slams her to the floor by grabbing her hair. A second deputy enters the holding cell, while the first deputy holds the girl face down to the floor. The first deputy appears to hit the girl with his hands. The girl is then lifted up and led out of the cell while the first deputy holds her hair. The King County sheriff’s deputy Paul Schene was investigated previously for shooting two people—killing one—in the line of duty. Source www.democracynow.org/2009/3/2/headlines#18I sent an e-mail to the King County sherriff departement and cc’d the council members in the county, asking for the discharge of both deputies. Here are there e-mail addresses: Sherriff: sheriff@kingcounty.gov King County Council members kathy.lambert@kingcounty.gov; bob.ferguson@kingcounty.gov; larry.gossett@kingcounty.gov; pete.vonreichbauer@kingcounty.gov; larry.phillips@kingcounty.gov; dow.constantine@kingcounty.gov; julia.patterson@kingcounty.gov; reagan.dunn@kingcounty.gov; jane.hague@kingcounty.gov

Between wars, my favorite cause for action was always the anti-nuclear movement. Peace Action West has a new online petition calling on President Obama to reverse 64 years of madness. It's still the ultimate peace issue: act.peaceactionwest.org/peaceactionwest/issues/alert/?alertid=12589511They're part of a coalition that's gathered 60,000 signatures so far for a world without nuclear weapons. If you leave the box checked at the bottom of the form, they will contact you. Maybe even if you uncheck it. Their campaign has just begun.
