I'm quoting all of Jeanne's post tonight so it appears at the top of the second page of her thread: The PEP rally is shaping up. We got some new ideas on the corner tonight. Linda would like to portray Joan Baez. She read my mind. I was thinking that we need Joan there. Bruce seemed open to being one of the Berrigan brothers. (Rest assured that I will be monitoring the Berrigans and Sister Corita to make sure that everything is kosher.) And stretching all kinds of assumptions, Sigrid feels strongly about being Martin Luther King. I'm loving this. Our new visitor, Pam, is thinking about it. I have also invited my professor from CSUN who did performance art before she got into art education. anni, do you think Sue Ellen would join us?
Once we choose our characters, I think it would be good to attain costumes and to practice in each other's presence for kind coaching and critiques.
And anyone who's ever been to the craft fair and has suggestions for where and how to do this, please speak up.
Courage, shy ones. Let's do something sane. I especially love Jeanne's last paragraph. It reminds me of D.H. Lawrence's poem, "A Sane Revolution," and its last line, "Let's make a revolution for fun!" Which I first read on the cover of Mott the Hoople's finest album, "Mott," when I discovered Lawrence. Wouldn't he be considered a pacifist? Anyway, I forget to ask Jeanne something almost every time on the corner. Last night it was: Should we ask Roberta and Cynthia if they're interested in pursuing their contacts at the drama departments of two local high schools to involve simpatico student actors? If more are needed. I have other idea/questions for things to do later in the process.

Everyone is stepping bravely in, that is excellent! To me one of the many benefits of our activitism is in leading the way by example for youth in our community.
I think the obvious "where" is at our corner, or was there mention of choosing another spot along Honolulu, i.e., not at the Vietnam memorial, as a defusion of confrontation gesture?
The Art Walk (Sat. Sept. 5th) is scheduled from 9am to 4pm, so we I am sure can agree on a doable slot to cover -- a couple of hours in midday? or a morning and an afternoon performance?

Okay, willing participants, let's come up with a time. Roberta suggested three of us presenting at once, at distant locations of the peace corner. We have about 9 volunteers, so we could do three shifts. I like the idea of hearing everyone else's so maybe we could have the shifts near each other. I can't quite shed the image of us walking around Montrose in character like the conclusion of Fahrenheit 451. (humor me)
Brian, yes, we welcome visitors and I'm interested to know what your other questions are. Or anyone else's. If anyone has a gift for scrounging for costumes, please speak up.

Brian, yes, we welcome visitors and I'm interested to know what your other questions are. Or anyone else's. I was going to ask if you're interested in making video recordings of the presentations in case we decide to post them on You Tube or just have for our own use. If so, it's better to pursue that when the location, actors and staging are outlined. Also, I renew my offer last April when this thread began to send press releases to attract newspaper, radio and television coverage, if you like. But that would be something to address in about two weeks. Sorry I can't be of any assistance in the creation or planning of the PEP rally right now, Jeanne!

Let's talk at the corner tomorrow night about press. Will we be prepared?
I found some elements of a costume at the Sun Thrift Store yesterday.

I like Brian's idea voiced at the corner tonight that we think of the Sept. 5th PEP (SPA?) as a dress rehearsal, I would even suggest "run-through", or as we say in the freeway banner game, being in experimental mode.
People who are busy or for whatever reason not wildly enthusiastic, can play whatever part if any they want at the actual event. Maybe Brian will video, or someone else will materializes who want to document visually.
He's also thinking to forego the media alert this run-through, which again I think may be a wise idea. The 2nd bed-in was so much better, more relaxed yet more organized, and unfortunately we had gotten the press to the 1st one, which didn't go quite as promptly/smoothly, etc. So live and learn! I'm hitting a thrift store ala Jeanne, she says she had good luck at the one by Tom Cat pet supply store in Sunland.
It was fun being back after my week away, and working on my upper arms carrying the signs home!

Okay, I'm an old dog and I'm not getting the quote in box trick. Have your IT guy call my IT guy.
It would be great if there is anyone out there with stage freight (optional) and a video camera. Still photos would be good, too.
I am enjoying channeling Julia Ward Howe. Her official website has tons of her journal entries, more than I have time to read. It would be great to have a run through/gentle critique/costume workshop. I'll have it at my house. Just need to pick a time.

A few of us who were planning to meet tonight about our street performance have agreed that we need to postpone our Peaceful Example Performance. Due to anxiety from fires and evacuation, we have temporarily lost our pep. I also think that anyone attending the fair in Montrose on Saturday will not be in the most receptive condition.
I have not been able to concentrate very well the last few days. Thinking that living in a war zone might share some of the stresses that we have experienced, I wonder how much I would be able to accomplish if I lived in Iraq. Would I get used to it over time?
It's good to be back in my smelly home. I am thinking of my neighbors to the west. If you need a place to stay, consider Briggs Terrace. There's nothing left to burn here.

Ahhhh! Dear and lovely Jeanne! I'm at home at this time...I guess the fire is slowing down...the air is nearly solid, dare I say oppressive? And what's for dinner... Hope Brian didn't have an overly challenging day...that seems to be normal, these days...Oh dear, I'm rambling.......
