I woke up this morning with a gasp, wondering if I needed to speed-memorize Lydia Marie Child. I see, however, that we have postponed our street theatre to a more opportune time. whew.

I think I just tried to reply without logging in. What I wanted to say was that I woke up with gasp this morning, wondering if i was supposed to be speed-memorizing Lydia Marie Child. I was relieved to find that this is not necessary for today!

My bad, Paige. I didn't mention it to you in person. Good for you for reading the message board and saving yourself from the labor of showing up in Montrose today in period costume speaking flowery, flourished, idealistic thoughts.
I'm wondering how long the statute of limitations is on using the fire as an excuse for being flakey.
The buzz from the banner bridge tonight is that we will have a dress rehearsal on the corner on Friday, 10/30 to prepare for meeting the multitudes for the real thing on Halloween.

It's only five weeks from now until the Peaceful Example Performance: The buzz from the banner bridge tonight is that we will have a dress rehearsal on the corner on Friday, 10/30 to prepare for meeting the multitudes for the real thing on Halloween. I'm bumping up this thread -- knowing how busy Jeanne is right now with school back in session, the Running of the Bowls winding up and, as Anni reports tonight after Jeanne's ceramics class, planning the Empty Bowls fundraiser in November -- whew! -- just so we'll keep it in mind. And imagine. Julia Ward HoweThere could be multitudes passing the corner Saturday, Oct. 31 -- the merchants give out candy to the costumed kids every Halloween in a safer environment than the usual dark residential streets.

I have been busy with school and bowls, but today am just sweating. i am having trouble picturing myself wearing black velvet blazer and skirt, but it's GOT to cool off by Halloween, doesn't it? It could be worse. I could don a whale bone corset. We're going to have a low key rehearsal on Friday, 10/30. Do you think we should wear costumes for that? And Roberta, what time do you think would be best on Saturday 10/31?

I want to hear what Roberta thinks too. Jeanne, you shouldn't have costumes if you want the rehearsal to be low key unless, I guess, the actors feel they need them to feel and learn their roles, soliloquies and staging. Speaking of which, what about signs identifying the pacifistic personages on Halloween? Easels might provide a classy presentation.

I have been enjoying my sister's visit -- offline -- and then last night John in colorful language announced our modem to be both broken and out of warranty. So here I am at the local library. I don't know when connectivity will resume at home. My thinking is to wear my "costume" (it isn't very elaborate) the Friday before just to make sure it is actually wearable. www.shopmontrose.com/spooktacular.htmlAs of today their website still seems to be referring to last year's event? Assuming this year it is on Saturday 31st 5-9 pm, do we want to arrive to allow a few minutes for set-up before 5pm? Candy -- lots. We ran out last year well before 9. I ordered 100 small peace leaflets from AFSC, and plan to attach small candies to each, reserve for revelers I think might actually read it, just candies for the tots. Jeanne, Nancy and I had planned on small leaflets on our respective personages -- Nancy already made hers, that little overachiever. But Brian you may be on to something. Given the crowds, perhaps just a big sign would be better. Do you have an easel you are offering up? (Hey, you had the perfect headboard ....) Another question Brian, does you interest in our dress at rehearsal indicate you are reconsidering joining the costumed? With Michael absent, I believe that the role of Mark Twain -- almost as good with words as you are -- is now open Previously: We're going to have a low key rehearsal on Friday, 10/30. When Anni and I saw the IP address from the Glendale Public Library come online just before we left for the county fair today, we assumed Louisa was on the other end. Thanks for posting from there, Roberta! Reading the shopping park association's webpage, all the action will occur in the 2200 block of Honolulu east of the vigil corner. The link looks up to date now. Where are they setting up the carnival rides and booths? And where are the closures to car traffic? Jeanne, Nancy and I had planned on small leaflets on our respective personages -- Nancy already made hers, that little overachiever. But Brian you may be on to something. The signs would be additional, overall identification for passersby. Yes, Anni has an easel that she says weighs a ton, so I can certainly schlep it. Oh no, I haven't changed my mind about performing. I'd like to see how I can use my time to advance the Peaceful Example Performance doing things I know I can do. Then enjoy what you all do on Halloween.

Jeanne had the best idea for my peace character, Sister Mary Corita. To print out stamp sized prints of one or two of her famous silk screen prints and attach them in a festive way to our candy Halloween treats. My actual faves are Smarties!

It's hard to believe that our performance is just a few days away. This weather is way more appropriate for velour skirt and blazer than our previous attempted performance times.. Hope Roberta has some heavy duty bobby pins to hold my lace cap on in this wind. Looking forward to meeting Sister Corita, Jeannette Rankin, Lydia Maria Child, Dorothy Day, and a hippie. This transcendentalist time travel is great.
See you all there,
Julia Ward Howe
