Members of Montrose Peace Vigil at a march and rally in downtown Los Angeles, October 2007. When that photo was taken, we had only been advertising peace together for less than two years. This month, Montrose Peace Vigil is marking its seventh anniversary. And almost everybody pictured above still comes to the corner of Ocean View Boulevard and Honolulu Avenue on Friday evenings. So what's new? This is the only page on this message board -- the 25 most recent topics -- that shows the latest post first. Guests are welcome to reply to any of them: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=recent

Thanks to Bill W. for his photo of our tribute to the Montrose Centennial Celebration last Friday. February proved to be a big month for Montrose Peace Vigil, on the corner and online. One of the most active topics on this message board was started by Rafi, the board's newest member, asking about the proposal to ban gun shows on Glendale city property. Later this month, the city council may consider an ordinance being drafted by the city attorney. For updates, keep checking this thread in March: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk2&action=display&thread=262

Four of the 13 folks who participated in the Montrose Peace Vigil on April 26, 2013. Montrose Peace Vigil has long been displaying a signboard about Pfc. Bradley Manning at our weekly vigils that highlights some of the ways our nation has benefited from the information he released to WikiLeaks, and we update the number of days he has been in custody without a trial, currently 1073. Now we've added the Free Bradley banner pictured above to reach out to those passing us in vehicles. The wonderful activists of Courage to Resist in Oakland, who run the Bradley Manning Support Network, list every one of our vigils through 2014 on the Events page of their website. Check out the link below. Then scroll down -- you'll see Montrose Peace Vigil Supports Bradley Manning every Friday in blue. Click on any one of thse blue links and you'll get an individual page for that week's vigil along with a map to the corner and an opportunity to post a reply. orders.bradleymanning.org/support_events

Every weekly Montrose Peace Vigil through 2014 is listed here on the Support Network's website. Montrose Peace Vigil started supporting Bradley Manning during our regular Friday gatherings on the corner two years ago with a free picnic in Bradley's honor. We ate Roberta's delicious variety of homemade sandwiches and collected more than $300 in donations for his defense from members and from passersby. During our July 12 vigil, we will hold another giveaway fundraiser for the Bradley Manning Support Network, thanks to the newest -- and youngest -- Montrose Peace Vigil participant. Nicole, age 11, already knew about Bradley when she started holding a sign last month. But she wants to do more -- set up a free lemonade stand. If anyone cares to make a tax deductible contribution, we'll forward 100 percent of the proceeds to Oakland for his defense in his ongoing court martial. For more information, see this thread on our message board: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=282&page=1

Our banner's new location at Honolulu and Ocean View. Right after Glendale Peace Vigil merged with Montrose Peace Vigil at the beginning of the year, we pooled our money and became Bronze sponsors of the Montrose Centennial Celebration. That gave us a 24 by 32 inch Montrose/Glendale Peace Vigil banner that initially went up last February two blocks from where we've conducted our weekly vigils for seven of those 100 years. Now our banner is being displayed on the old fashioned light pole nearest our usual gathering spot on the northwest corner of Honolulu Avenue and Ocean View Boulevard. When the centennial celebration ends in late August, we get to keep the banner.

Some of the folks at the July 19 vigil, where we raised $108 for the Bradley Manning Support Network. I count everyone who demonstrates at each Friday's Montrose Peace Vigil, and the average number of participants is up this summer -- even with many of our regulars away on vacation. Both June and July averaged 15 people per week, compared to 12 in each of the first three months of 2013, 13 in April and 11 in May. In July 2012, the corner averaged 10 demonstrators per vigil. If you can't make it to the corner, please feel free to write anything here on the Montrose Peace Vigil message board -- or just say hello. You do not have to register to post. The next post will start a new page of this "Guests are welcome!" thread. Just click on the "reply" icon in the blue bar below.
