Hi all, I'm on the mailing list of an amazing local woman, a die-hard activist for accountability for the pack of criminals currently in our highest offices. Here's her latest message: Hey -- Obama's A.G. appointee [Holder] actually responded to this petition (when sent individually) saying "Enough folks, I hear you" !! Wow! So Democrats.com is asking everybody to keep signing, and then they'll send the petition in one attachment, to cut down on emails to Holden. Let's try for 100000 sigs! www.democrats.com/special-prosecutor-for-bush-war-crimes?source=tdragert%40gmail.com

Another good one from my inbox. I always have so many activist opportunities in my email, the only question is which to pursue and pass on first! Speak Out Against The Planned Bush Blanket Pardons BEFORE They Can Happen Pay no attention to the handful of Christmas pardons granted by Bush. This is mere political window dressing to distract from the bumper crop of blanket absolutions, including one for himself, scheduled to be released just before midnight on Jan 19th. Cheney would not so arrogantly be bragging on TV about how he authorized torture if it were not so. But there is a resolution in Congress, H.Res. 1531, preemptively condemning any such move if we can just get enough members of Congress to sponsor it (already 10 so far). Many of you have submitted a action page on this already. Please do it again, especially if your representative did not hear you the first time. Action Page To Stop The Bush Pardons: www.usalone.com/hres1531.phpEach action page you submit is another lump of coal in Cheney's stocking. Some have speculated on the possibility of post inauguration impeachment, especially considering the fact that many insiders are waiting until then to spill the beans. Maybe they don't want to get bumped off in asuspicious plane crash like Mike Connell. But a self pardon at the very last minute would certainly be grounds for some kind of action, perhaps even impeachment, if and only if Congress would react and take action immediately. So we will still continue to distribute the impeachment message items until the very last minute as well.

Happy New Year!! The deadline for this round of questions for Obama is midnight, so still time to vote for the "Peacevoter" ones, as described below: December 29, 2008 Dear Roberta, Thank you for signing the letter to Barack Obama asking him to meet with the Peace Community. While he has yet to sit down with leaders in the anti-war movement, we have another opportunity to address the President-Elect. The Obama Transition Team has once again opened up for questions on their official site, Change.gov. Questions can be voted up or down by members of the community and the Obama Team will answer the most popular questions after the New Year. Let Obama know that peace, including ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, are our priorities by voting for the following CODEPINK questions: * President-Elect Obama, you were elected in large part because of your promise to end the War in Iraq. Will you sit down with leaders of the peace movement to talk about bringing our troops home? * What will you do to find a viable, negotiated solution that ends the violence in Afghanistan and fosters sustainable economic development, women's rights, healthcare, education and civil society in the region? Here's how you can vote: 1. Go to the Change.gov page: change.gov/page/content/openforquestions20081229/2. Sign In to your Change.gov account 3. Search for the questions using the keyword: peacevoter 4. Vote by hitting the checkmark next to each of the questions After voting, you can submit your own question for Obama. In Peace, Paris Online Organizer for CODEPINK

That's a good one, Roberta. I got mine via e-mail and Anni responded to your post before the deadline. Here's the latest from Code Pink, an eloquent petition calling on Condi to exercise her power to stop the killing in Gaza: salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/424/petition.jsp?petition_KEY=1788They have 2793 names at the moment.

Hi, here is the latest message from American Friends Service Committee (webpage view): support.afsc.org/site/R?i=oqi6LChdK-laaqGWOGxWLAThey are collecting signatures on a "roadmap to peace" document, and it also gives some good talking points to contact your Congressional rep. Jeanne, Bruce and I are still doing the peace banner once a week, on Monday evenings for an hour. For a winter location (too dark to be seen on a freeway overpass), we are currently at the corner of Verdugo and Honolulu, which is just a couple of blocks east of the vigil corner. Tonight we are meeting at 4:30 pm since Jeanne is on break from school, our usual time is 5:30. Visitors welcome for any length of time! (Or just drive by and honk!) We enjoy chatting, while reminding people peace is an option, and hearing/seeing their support. Roberta

Reading Annie's post I realized with sadness that there probably aren't going to be anymore demonstrations organized by ANSWER L.A. against the war in Iraq. We went to four of them downtown and in Hollywood. Anni's got something scheduled this Saturday, so the least we could do right now was customize and send these letters to our senators and Buck McKeon courtesy of Peace Action West: capwiz.com/peaceactionwest/issues/alert/?alertid=12389216&type=CO

I might as well just bookmark the Links to activism directly, that is where I always end up. Annie has posted about the protest of the assault on Gaza this Saturday at noon at the Westwood Federal Building, organized by the stalwart ANSWERLA organization (http://answerla.org). I've done many, many marches/rallies, but never a tree planting (See Michael's post), so I'm going to stay local. But Gaza is appalling. so we must speak out. An email I got yesterday says that over 700 Palestinians have been killed, 1/4 of them women and children, compared to 10 Israeli soldiers dead, 4 killed by friendly fire. Can this be true? Proportionality in response to Palestinian rockets fired at (unauthorized) Israeli settlements? Many peace groups have set up sites for action, centering around getting Congressional pressure on Israel for a ceasefire. To compensate for missing the rally on Saturday, today I'm going to make phone calls and emails, clicking the appropriate "action" option links if Gaza isn't on the top page, at the following: www.justforeignpolicy.org www.afsc.org/www.codepink4peace.org/

Louisa told us about another Gaza protest on Sunday, this one also at noon at the Westwood Federal Building but sponsored by LA Jews for Peace, the Islamic Shura Council and the American Friends Service Committee: www.lajewsforpeace.org/Unlike ANSWER LA's demonstration today, this one will not occur on the Jewish and Muslim Sabbath.
