Montrose Peace Vigil will celebrate the 40th anniversary of John and Yoko's Montreal Bed-In on Friday, May 29, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the corner of Ocean View Boulevard and Honolulu Avenue in the Montrose Shopping Park. Our March 27 tribute to their first Bed-In for peace in Amsterdam made the front page of the Glendale News Press. For those new to this message board: www.glendalenewspress.com/articles/2009/03/28/news/gnp-peace28.txtAnd here's our page on the board with more photos and links: montrosepeacevigil.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=61&page=6We've been discussing ways to make the next Bed-In even better -- I've got my own list of enhancements and improvements to propose in the days to come. And from what I'm hearing during the past month, we can expect a much bigger turnout. So let's talk more in this thread too. If you're a guest, please feel free to ask questions and post comments.

Before we move on to plan the next Bed-In on May 29, here's another look back at our first one with some outtakes from Anni's photo gallery: Our fearless founder Roberta was the first to try the air mattress. From left, Louisa, Jeanne and Nancy sing on the bed while Michael holds his "Make Beds Not War" sign. And this must be me on drugs.

Just three weeks until the Bed-In -- time to get serious, yes?
I'm no event planner. Thirty years ago, I worked on movie premieres but I never conceived of anything. So I started making notes right after the first Bed-In for the next one, mostly stuff that I forgot, dismissed or didn't think about until I saw how our air mattress looked on the corner. Simple things like real pillows with top and bottom sheets to go with the blanket. A white headboard would show up better than the wooden one I brought.
The flowers were great -- and giving them away to passersby was inspired, Bruce -- so I'd be willing to add cash for more than three dozen. We could also use a lot of big decorative flowers, whether paper or plastic (Ono).
I'd like to elevate the air mattress to make it look more real, but a bed frame would be a hassle to set up and could incite some official attention. Roberta's idea of providing some seating around the bed is right on -- I suggest folding campstools or short benches instead of folding chairs so we don't distract from the bed itself or take up more room than needed to sit.
What do you think?

THE FLOWERS WERE JUST SO GREAT & more Ono is always good. Love it & I'm good to donate too (:not just a pretty face). WE NEED TO ALL DO OUR BEST TO BE THERE BY 5:30 for the press & (coming up to a joke) the sycophants. I think the level of the bed was fine. I've got sheets I think, unless they need to be white white. I think they're light. If no one else wants to, my pillows have seen better days so even if the Bed-in was their demise they could go out in a blaze of glory. Let me know if you want me to do a sacavanger hunt in this vein. Bed Peace, Nancy

Brian, I think it's a go, thanks for getting us focused on the nitty-gritty. I also loved the flowers, maybe divide them up into several containers to disburse among vigiler groups-- I can bring some -- so more people can get into the act of giving out flowers. I also am happy to help pay and/or help fetch and carry the flowers -- Bruce, let us know what we should do. My thought is to try to make huge flowers out of sheets of crepe paper and pipecleaners, to decorate our hotel room. I agree with Nancy that everyone showing up on time is a priority -- at the first bed-in the reporter was there and gone before we have our best turnout of the evening.
