Thanks!
Bill got all the accident reports from the close by intersections and streets in Glendale and is doing an analysis. Someone else is doing the LA ones. Many people are working on this but the builders have hired consultants - it will take a lot of effort to stop the development.

Thank you for signing up for the traffic count, anni! That is a big help. I'm glad you guys were able to make it to the meeting. I'm sure you saw BillW, as he was there and is also helping with the traffic element.
On Thursday , July 16, we're having a fundraiser at Dominick's Italian Restaurant in La Crescenta. The restaurant will be donating a percentage of each receipt to help save the golf course. All you have to do is let them know you are there for the fundraiser.
Money raised is being used for flyers and other outreach expenses, such as the big yellow 'SaveTheGolfCourse.Org signs. Donations are also needed for hiring consultants for the portions of the DEIR.

I'd love to hear how the fundraiser at Dominick's restaurant went on Thursday. And Anni's eager to hear from somebody about doing the traffic count by the golf course to refute the draft EIR. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Times ran this story on page A7 today: www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-golf-course18-2009jul18,0,5489001.story

Only two weeks remain to send comments about the Draft Environmental Impact Report. The best resource for learning and acting is VOICE's Save the Verdugo Hills Golf Course webpage: www.gcvoice.org/current-projects/vhgc.htmI see they're having another fundraiser at a restaurant not far from our vigil on Friday, Aug. 7. Has anyone been to Frank's Famous Kitchen and Bakery on Verdugo Road?

We've been to Franks a few times and like it. We're meeting VOICE's Karen Keene Zimmerman there for breakfast Friday at 9am. We'd love it if any Montrose vigilers are able to join us. I know this group has a Karen Zimmerman, too, I didn't want to confuse anyone.
Thanks for thinking of helping save the VHGC. There's another fundraiser August 31 at Joselito's West on Foothill. Many ways to help.

Anni got an e-mail last week from Sheri Smith of savethegolfcourse.org thanking her for volunteering to count cars to refute the traffic estimates in the Draft Environmental Impact Report -- and promoting their booth this weekend at the world famous Watermelon Festival put on by the Sunland-Tujunga Lions Club since I was just a seed: We have another event coming up where you can help support the Golf Course. The VHGC Committee is joining the Sunland-Tujunga NC and Sunland-Tujunga Alliance in providing information tables at the S-T Watermelon Festival, August 14 - 16 in Sunland Park. This will be our last good opportunity to provide information to interested community members regarding the need for written comments regarding the DEIR and we would like your help in staffing the tables. Watermelon Festival hours are: Friday, August 14 from 5 - 11 p.m.; Saturday, August 15 from noon - 11:30 p.m.; and Sunday, August 16 from noon - 10:30 p.m.lionswatermelonfestival.com/

Since the deadline for submissions refuting the Draft Environmental Impact Report, savethegolfcourse.org has been publicizing the research and comments while conducting fundraisers in anticipation of the final EIR that could be released as early as March. From their latest e-mail: Leading off the 2010 fundraising campaign La Cabanita Mexican Restaurant is sponsoring an event on Tuesday, January 19th, between 10AM - 10PM. Stop in for lunch or dinner and La Cabanita will donate 15% of your check (before tip) to community efforts to save the Verdugo Hills Golf Course. Be sure to put your receipt in the 'Save the Golf Course' box and please thank the proprietors of La Cabanita (3445-47 North Verdugo Road, Glendale/Montrose) for their support of the VHGC.
Join us on Saturday, February 6th, from 6-11PM at the historic Montrose Bowl, located at 2334 Montrose Avenue. Time to hit the lanes, 'striking' a blow in our efforts to 'spare' the VHGC! Each adult who donates $50.00 ($25 for kids under 12) will receive a pair of bowling shoes (for temporary use), a selection from a wide array of highly experienced bowling balls (again, for temporary use), and the opportunity to apply your skills on any one of the eight lanes at the Montrose Bowl. Food will be provided. No host bar for beverages. Raffles and surprises will round out this evening of fun and camaraderie on behalf of the VHGC.

Thanks, Brian, for sharing the fundraising news. It's appreciated! By the way, the traffic consultant told us we didn't need to count the intersections covered in the Draft EIR. He said it wasn't necessary - that it was unlikely the professional counts would be questioned. That's way there was no follow up on doing the intersection counts. Please thank Anni again for offering to help with that. What the consultant recommended was that we count the traffic at the golf course itself. The DEIR used national averages to provide data regarding rush hour traffic at the golf course. Obviously the national averages would make it look like there was a lot more traffic at the VHGC than there actually is....big traffic numbers for the VHGC would help the developer offset the low ball numbers that the DEIR was using for the proposed development. So a five day count was conducted at the golf course - cars in/cars out. The counts were done during the morning and afternoon rush hours. Our traffic consultant did the calculations demonstrating the numbers were much lower than those national averages. Finding discrepancies is what so many of the public comment letters covered, community members and organizations finding errors in the DEIR. By the way, the January eBlast can be found at www.gcvoice.org/emails/2010Jan6.htmThanks again, Brian!

Thank you, Karen Z., for giving us the background on how the traffic counts were done for the Draft Environmental Impact Report and how the good folks of savethegolfcourse.org responded. We always appreciate your contributions to this board -- and invite all nonmembers reading to click on "reply" too. Here's a reminder about the Save the Golf Course fundraiser next Tuesday, Jan. 19, at La Cabanita Mexican Restaurant. If you dine there from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., the restaurant will donate 15 percent of your check if you leave it in the box on the way out. One of the better Web pages about La Cabanita that I found: www.yelp.com/biz/la-cabanita-glendale
