If you want to check Winnipeg weather, Brian, just go to cbc.ca or something and click on the weather link, although, I know it's nice to be able to find it in your newspaper, I always check LA weather and notice that sometimes we're warmer in the early morning than you guys. Even the Los Angeles Times is conspiring to drive me to the Internet. Well, at least I can do the Celsius conversion while I'm there. I'm so frustrated that I decided to subscribe to the New York Times. Put both of them together and I'll have as much newspaper as I used to read in one just four years ago. All right, I did it. Right now, the CBC says it's 70.7 (21.5 Celsius) in Winnipeg with thunderstorms. Our thermometer outside facing the vast and clear San Fernando Valley many miles away reads 66. I recently stumbled upon this on the Next Exit message board from 2005 -- it still rings true today: It's a well known fact that the use of Centigrade by other countries is part of a vast Communist conspiracy to dupe Americans into thinking it's colder elsewhere and prevent us from visiting and spreading our freedoms.

Enjoy your analog newspapers while you can brian, i think you'll be hard pressed ten years from now to find one.
We had horrific thunder boomers this morning and lots and lots of rain--it was like driving through a car wash--difficult to see--but it all cleared up just before noon and has been lovely ever since.
You know I love the United States brian, but you guys seem to be the one big hold out against the metric system...we hated it 30 some odd years ago when it was forced down our throat and undoubtedly you all will hate it too some day when it's forced down your throat ;D

Hey, Martine: this story about celebrity graves, along with a map and photos, is on the front page of the Los Angeles Times today: www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-et-jackson-graves11-2009jul11,0,5340743,full.story It starts with Rudolph Valentino and ends with Michael Jackson, giving some good resources in between. However, no mention of Jean Harlow.

Martine, we're happy to learn from your e-mails with me and phone talks with Anni that you're landing in Los Angeles at noon on Monday the 17th instead. Tuesday afternoon might be the best time to see some of the places in Hollywood we've been mentioning. Did your departure ticket change too?
Anyway, when I get to work this morning, I'm booking Monday through Wednesday that week, for starters, for vacation time.

i am still in shock about "the new development" and anni's extreme patience and kindness in running all the way down to largo to see if she could get tickets.
i think..i am going to be very tired on Tuesday (edited to add: because on Mondayl..) my day will start at around 4 am and probably end somewhere east of midnight...so if we do the sights on Tuesday..you're going to have to equipt me with a strong Columbian (oo-errr) coffee and sit me upright so I like somewhat lifelike) (LOL)
my departure ticket did not change, so you're actually going to have to put up with me for 6 1/2 days (I think that's right) instead of 5 or 6 days...i hope that doesn't inconvenience you guys...i can always cab it to the airport if push comes to shove ;D
and indeed---YAAAAAYYYYYYYY

Your concertgoing experiences are really six-hour affairs. I understand from reading the other message board that Kathleen will only be in Los Angeles until Wednesday evening, so I'm sure you'll want to see her as much as possible before she returns to British Columbia. I brought up Hollywood to address a couple of places on a great list. Since we'll need to eat before the show, maybe everyone will want to go to Farmer's Market, where there's a tremendous variety of food. Perhaps Kathleen wants to shop Amoeba Records too. Just suggestions -- we'll see how everybody feels next month. We're glad you're staying an extra day and a half, Martine! It could be magical -- it's starting that way.

the only thing about tuesday i'm vaguely worried about at this point..is lining up so we get a good seat assignment. i am concerned you guys either may not want to go as early as i would want to go or may find the idea of standing around for 4 plus hours in the heat a bit of a chore (albeit a fun one) annie assures me that ya'all stand around a lot "at the corner" and it won't be a hardship. i hope so!
i am not sure how into it you guys are in doing the neil finn line-up to get good seats dance. anni suggested on monday, it would be an awful lot of travelling to get me at the airport, take me home and then go to the theatre..so i mentioned that if you and her were into it..we could just go straight frm lax to largo to scope out what was going on (ie if the lineup had started already) one thing i learned in chicago is that regardless of people holding spots for you in the lineup--other people (ie people behind you) do not appreciate it at all. i assume the good folk of los angeles are no different in this regard.
i know kathleen would adore to see you and anni and hang with us for a bit etc...but the other peeps are going to want to as well. they all know this isn't a usual meetup though because it's MY HOLIDAY and they AND NEIL are all ENCROACHING on it! (LOLOL)
hopefully, we can get our seat assignments and all bugger off for dinner/drinks as a gang and that obligation will be over.
